Howdy Ho SG friends,
As always, I'll start with a big thank you to the kind souls who left supportive comments on my last blog. Your support means more than you know, so hugs all round!
As you can guess from the title of this blog, there's been slight progress with my situation.
The Lidocaine cream hasn't helped any, and in fact it's not really given much relief at all. Given that the patches are the same strength as the cream I don't think they'll work for me either. I've decided not to go for a private prescription and my doctor agrees, because £90 is a lot to pay for something that won't help...
I got a phone call from the general surgeon's secretary (at the hospital in town) apologising for the delay in responding to my GP's referral and they had a cancellation appointment they could offer me this week. I accepted, and went to see the surgeon for a consultation about surgery. He advised me against having the whole left testicle removed because they think that the right one (the one that's underdeveloped) is producing testosterone but they'd have no way of knowing for sure until it was too late. He didn't think hormone replacement injections would do me much good if I needed them, and I agreed with that because there's loads of stuff that can go wrong with HRT.
Instead, he advised me to have the epididimus removed, which he was quite happy to do for me. On the other hand I wasn't keen on having him do the surgery because of my previous experience of botched operations down there. Another factor that put me off was the fact that he's the same general surgeon who did a botched job on my Mum's hand (she has numerous problems with her hands), and ended up leaving her feeling ten times worse than before. She had to go to Aberdeen to get it sorted, and she had two specialists doing the surgery then...
Based on that knowledge, I had no intention of letting him anywhere near my balls with a scalpel!! I tried be as polite as I could about it (and I didn't mention the state he'd left Mum's hand in), but he still got offended when I asked if he could refer me back to the urologist in Aberdeen as I'd be happier having the urologist perform the operation.
After a few snide remarks about how it was a simple operation and he was quite capable of doing it himself, he agreed to refer me back to the urologist. I couldn't believe how he went from professional to childish in 0-60 seconds... I can't help but be wary whenever they say "it's a simple procedure" because the last time I heard that was when I went for a 1st stage IVF sperm retrieval operation 5 years ago. That turned out to be a highly invasive procedure that left me walking like I'd been riding a horse for too long, and all because they hadn't read my medical notes properly! Also, even though I can't prove it did, but I wonder if that IVF operation contributed towards the pain I'm in now? It could just be coincidence, but the pain first started exactly one year after that procedure...
But I digress, and I'm probably being paranoid...
So, there's been more of a sideways progression as I'm nowhere nearer to having surgery. I have to wait for a consultation with the urologist in Aberdeen, and then I'll hear about when I could have surgery.
Apart from that it's been a pretty quiet week, went to see Mrs Brown's Boys D' Movie, which was hilarious. I definitely recommend it to fans of the show because, even though it's not filmed in front of a live audience (like the TV show is), they've kept in the usual features that made the show a hit and they've pulled it off nicely. :)
Went out for dinner with Mum and my stepdad today, because they're going on holiday tomorrow and they'll miss my birthday on Sunday. Going out for a Chinese meal on my birthday, and have invited a few friends (one of whom's birthday is the day before mine, and it's been ages since we've celebrated our birthdays together). I'm not fit enough for a night out on the town, so a meal with friends will suit me nicely, and I'm looking forward to catching up with them as I don't get out much these days.
Nothing else left to report, but before I go I'll ask for some more love for the following lovely ladies. They all deserve a boatload of love and with your help they could either go pink or make the front page with set of the day!
