Howdy Ho SG friends!
First of all, a big thanks to all those kind souls who left supportive comments on my last blog. You know who you are, and you're all awesome, hugs all round! :)
I did notice that some thought I had had an accident, and I'm sorry if I gave anyone that impression as it was not my intention to mislead anyone. The scar I mentioned in the last blog is from having had a non cancerous (but unsightly) mole removed (as I mentioned in an earlier blog), and that scar got infected.
Which leads me to the good news... The scar that was infected has finally cleared up and looks like it's healing. It's taken it's time about it, because I had the mole removed a month ago... Anyways, at last it's healing and it's no longer weeping. Whoop whoop! :)
Some of you may know from my earlier blogs that I've been suffering from testicular pain (due to a non cancerous testicular cyst) for years, and I've been off work for the past year because of it and the depression which arose because of the constant pain (I also had to resign from my job earlier this year because I've no idea how much longer it will take before I'm fit for work, and it wasn't fair to keep my boss hanging on indefinitely). I had requested to be referred for surgery years ago, but (due to my medical history) the surgeon didn't think that surgery would be a success. He actually advised me to leave surgery as a last resort and to try every known method of pain relief first.
So, two years on and I've tried acupuncture, painkillers (currently on a repeat prescription of Tramadol), steroid injection, nerve block injection, neuropathic painkillers, and even tried a TENS machine. None of these have helped in any way, so I'm left taking Tramadol twice to three times a day and I asked my doctor to refer me back to the surgeon, since I had tried all forms of pain relief... In the meantime I had read in an online forum (for guys with the same sort of pain as me) that there was a patch that was usually used for aching joints, that they cut up into small pieces and applied to their testicles. A lot of guys swore by this patch and said it was the only thing that gave them any relief... So I asked my doctor about these patches, and she'd never heard of them. She did some research though, and she seemed hopeful that it might help.
However, here comes the bad news... I phoned her yesterday (to see if she'd made any more progress), as Tramadol's not helping much these days and the pain's been really bad. She said that she'd spoken to a doctor at the pain clinic (not the one that I'd seen during my frequent visits there last year), a doctor who's never dealt with me before, or read my medical history... He told her he didn't think the patch would work for my sort of pain, and she took what he said as gospel.
So I'm feeling pretty frustrated at the moment, as it will be a few months at least before I hear anything regarding the surgery. I've had this pain for so long and I'm so fed up with it. :(
In other news I finished knitting the back section of the cardigan I'm making for my wife, and I'm making good progress on the left front section. I'll share a picture here when it's finished. :)
That's about all my news, hopefully the next blog will be more cheerful.
