First of all a big thanks to those who posted such lovely, caring comments on yesterday's blog, love you all!
It's Up Helly Aa day in Shetland again - it's a fire festival to celebrate the end of the old Norse winter. It's a torchlit procession of different squads of men in fancy dress, led by the Guzer Jarl and his Jarl Squad, which are all dressed as vikings. The Guizer Jarl stands in his Galley (a replica viking ship) and is towed around the processiion route, while the Jarl Squad and other squads follow behind carrying flaming torches. The procession leads to the burning site, where the Guizer Jarl leads 3 cheers for the Galley builders, the torch makers and for Up Helly Aa. 3 cheers are then given for the Guizer Jarl before he steps down from the Galley and then all the squads step forward and throw their torches onto the Galley, setting it on fire.
I've attached some videos that should help with my rough description.
Not a very good description I'm afraid, anyone who's interested should Google "Up Helly Aa" and you're bound to get a much more detailed description.
My back's still sore, had the x-ray today, but they told me nothing and simply said the results will be sent to my doctor in a week. If nothing shows up on the x-ray, I won't even hear from the doctor, as that's the way our health care system seems to work.
Doubtful I'll be back to work this week though, but at least it'll give me some time to catch up on studying.
Had to laugh today when my boss phoned, asking me what the password was to the optical software on the computer at work. Goes to show that even when I'm off sick, I'm indispensible.
That's about all the excitement for today, so without further a do, I'll close this blog with some nice cosplay pics. Enjoy!
