So, do you all remember a few months back where I told ya'all about my friend the cop's mom who was dying?
Well, she passed away on Saturday.
I'm still not sure how to feel. I don't know if I should go to the viewing today since I can't make the mass tomorrow morning. If I went it wouldn't be to pay my [lack of] respects to her, it would be to provide a shoulder and an ear for him.
Perhaps I'll just send a plant. Or a basket of muffins. I've already told him to call me if he needs anything, but he's not the type to do that. Do I just go tonight? Do I not go at all?
With most parental demises, I wouldn't even have to question it. But these are different circumstances.
Input?

yeah, that's understandable, but it's still the right thing to do.

You should go because of your friend. I dont think sending a gift of sorts is the same thing
