A Tale of Genius*.
*Hereafter, the word genius shall be used in a sarcastic manner.
Life is a comedy of errors for me sometimes. Take our pool for instance. Some of you may remember that I've mentioned my pool drama in passing a few times. There are a few pics of it too. Let me tell you the whole story up until today...
We moved into our house in June of last year. It came with a pool, which was then a nice shade of greenish grey. We tried shocking it and running the filter, to no avail. Eventually we figured out it needed a whole new filter, since the previous homeowners were geniuses and had a filter that was too weak. So we got the new filter, nuked it with chlorine, and got it up and running finally. In august.
Then came winter time. We decided to winterize it in november, since we too are geniuses. By then it was already close to freezing anyway. So we covered it up with a tarp, but realized there was nothing to tie it down with. So, the geniuses that we are, we decided to just weigh it down. It's an above ground pool, and we decided to put lots of big rocks on top of the edges of the tarp. They held it down securely, and it sounded like a GREAT idea at the time.
So we watched it for an hour or so, and it didn't move. Then a gust of wind blew the tarp up slightly, pushing one of the rocks in. Then several other rocks decided to join him, and it became a rock pool party.
We were so disgusted and frustrated that we decided "screw it". My roommates didn't even really want the pool that badly anyway. So we just left the damn rocks in the pool. Let 'em soak, we figured. The tarp will just freeze into the surface of the pool anyway. Like I said.... we're geniuses.
So we left it that way all winter long. Everything was fine...
Until mid april or so. Then it started slowly draining. By the end of the month it was empty.
Then this past week we decided "maybe we should fix it".
So we threw all the rocks out of the pool, shook out the dirty tarp, and got some leaves out of it. I then patched the huge gaping hole. We started filling the pool, and realized it may still have a slow leak somewhere. So I re-patched a couple parts. At 1 am last night.
Now all I can do is wait.
I am such a genius.
