Book Review:
Bill Clinton's "My Life" : I downloaded the book tape because I am kinda ADD when it comes to reading. Bill Clinton actually read the book tape which was a shock to me.
This book was really good, it was very enlightening look into politics and partisanship. This book shows how great a person Clinton is, regardless of his immoral slip. Clinton obviously cared a great deal for the country and wanted to do everything he could to make this country a better place to live in.
Something I didn't know is that we would have a national health plan for everyone, but the republican majority in congress refused to pass any health care legislation out of pure spite. It makes me wish that we didn't have the two term limit on the presidency. Things that would have likely occured if he stay in office another term:
- National debt would have been payed off by end of 2002.
- Peace in Israel. Due to Clinton soon to be out of office they had to put a deadline of the peace agreement and Arafat needed more time. Arafat was ready to agree shortly after George Bush took office, but since the change in president the terms were no longer valid.
- Clinton was waiting for proof of Bin Laden's involvement in the Navy ship bombing, to go after Bin Laden when he left office. The proof came in like April of 2001, 3 months after Clinton left office. Clinton said that he would have invaded Afghanistan as soon as he got the proof. Meaning that we would have invaded Afghanistan that summer before 9/11, likely making it almost impossible for the terrorists to go through with the 9/11 bombings.
- Tuition for college would be much much cheaper and the loans for college would have greatly increased.
Clinton also said he informed Bush that the biggest threat to American was terrorist attacks and that Iraq was way down on the list. Bush seemed to ignore what Clinton had to say and changed the subject. Bush thought Iraq was the number one threat to the the US in his Jan 2001 conversation with Clinton.
Clinton said that he was able to stop several attempted nondomestic terrorist attacks on US soil. We list at least 6 in the book. All of which I never heard about.
Overall book is a *****. For nonfiction it doesn't get much better.
