It's always nice to dress up. Last night was the Helen Hayes award ceremony. For those of you who DON'T follow the District of Columbia regional theater scene (and who doesn't? ), last night was the Tony's of D.C.
I was invited by one of the theater companies I worked for last year. By invited, of course, I mean I was offered a chance to buy a $50.00 artist ticket. That sounds expensive, but tickets normally start at $300.00, so it was something of a "bargain". I bought a new suit for the occasion. I have no evidence of this, but I looked pretty hot.
I saw a lot of familiar faces from the past year, a lot of the actors I worked with, some of the folks I worked with at Studio Theater back in my early D.C. days.
The night got me thinking about all the goals I had set for my career when I first graduated and moved here for my initial internship, three years ago. Some were achieved quickly, others have yet to be reached, but most importantly progress has been, and continues to be, made. For instance, this fall, I'll be directing some staged readings for an up and coming company. I'm excited, I just wish the scripts were available for purchase outside of a small circle of Irish distribution companies. Lets just say these plays are NEW.
