There are so many interesting things to do in D.C., if you put in a little effort to find them. The Borders near my workplace dowtime has book signings and discussions something like every other day. I've seen people like Ted Kennedy, Cindy Sheehan, and various other politicians and diginataries.
The best of all came Friday night. Al Franken (you know him as "Stuart Smally" from Saturday Night Live circa 1993) was there to speak about his latest book. Of course, the REAL reason he was there, and the reason the whole audience was there, was beacuse of his impending run for one of Minnesota's Senate seats in 2008.
Franken's been a (highly) partisan Democrat for some time now. He has a show on Air America, he's stumped for various Democratic candidates, etc, etc. I've been a fan of his for some time ("Stuart Saves his Family", which maybe 20 people have seen in the whole damn world, is a great flick) and I wanted to see if there was really enough substance there to justify a run for the Senate. I'm happy to report that there is. His talents as a writer and performer certainly lend him a rhetorical advantage, but the man also knows his stuff. He can wax poetical about the tragedy of our mishanding of the Iraq War, and still have good enough timing to slip in a "Gosh Bush is Dumb" zinger or two. He's really quite a potent speaker. I was impressed, and it takes a lot to impress me. Cindy Sheehan, for example, seems a nice enough lady, but she bored me to tears.
Of course, Franken won't come out and SAY he's running for the Senate, but it's more than implied. He's moved back to his home state of Minnesota, he's stated up a Political Action Committee (called "Midwestern Values PAC", of all things. Finally the dems are starting to fight back on the "values" front. The Republicans have dominated the debate there for 20 some years now.), and now he's tourning behind this highly partisan book. Of course he's running, and I think he's got a good shot to win.

I promised some pictures from last weekends Game Night, here are some of the tame ones. You have to be part of the group to see pics of the "Too Hot for TV" variety.
One of the few pics of the party featuring myself full dressed. I'll spare you to the topless ones, as the shine of light off my alabaster skin has the potential to blind the unwary. Oh, and why the hell are my lips grey?
Gee, I wonder what they're laughing at. Any ideas, RelevantSwitch?

BTW, glad to see so many pics of the party going up...it makes me all the more sad that I wasn't there.
Oh, and if you want to see pale, look at pics of me...I'm practically transparent.
