Its always hard to say goodbye...
Tonight was totally great. I worked all day and then came home for about 30 minutes....before I get into tonight let me set the back story...
One of my best friends is named Josh. I met him first class, first bell, first day of High School and have been friends now for the better part of 8 years. Josh is kind of a wild one, but he is my friend. Josh has made a lot of bad choices, but he doesn't regret any of them, as he shouldn't. I wouldn't have Josh any other way. Josh leaves Sunday morning to go into the Air Force...
Tonight he called me about a half hour after I got home from work to see if I wanted to go see his bands last practice before he left, so of course I said yes. It totally sucked. I sat there for well over 2 hours while they tooled off and jammed. Some of it sounded good, but not much. Anyways...about 9:30 I asked Ian (one of the guitarist) if I could play his axe while they were taking a break, and he said yes. Me and Josh weren't going to pass up one last chance to jam.
We totally sucked. We were tooling off and just making it up as we go and I could tell Josh wasn't having any fun. He looked at me and told me he was done playing for the night, but I wasn't going to have it end like that. I asked him if we could play Four Horsemen for one last time. We used to jam out to old Metallica tunes in High School so definately fun, but it had a little more meaning to it this time. We were totally fucking ripping it up and then the rest of the dudes in his band and the other people who were there started a mosh pit and started fucking shit up right in the storage area. Me and Josh only played harder and I thought I was gonna cry when I saw him smiling like that. We then played nothing but Slayer, Sepultura, and Metallica tunes for over the next hour while the dudes thrashed it up and we jammed out.
The storage area lady came and ripped up the slide door and said it was too late for us to play. We know that you don't have to stop playing until 11 on Friday and Saturday, but I guess we were just to metal for her so she made us stop like 10:45. Fuck her, but it just went to show we were probably having too much fun.
It was like we were in my room, back in 10th grade, playing the tunes we loved. I can't think of a better way to say goodbye than that. I know that Josh will come by sunday morning to say goodbye, but I almost wish he wouldn't because I don't know how I'm gonna take it when one of my friends comes to say farewell. Tonight left me with the best of memories and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Totally somber post but thats how things go. Good and bad. Like I said, I am glad that I had one last chance to thrash the fuck out with my old-school boy.
Keep on rockin' because I know I will,

Old friends, old lives... very much a part of my thinking at the moment as well.
