Well, I got the new Harry Potter half an hour after it was released in the US and I finished it yesterday, several days short of a week. Fuck. I really wish it was longer so that I could still have my mind stuck in that world. I really love those books, and I really love this new one too. I keep hearing people gripe about little things (sometimes big things) in this book, but at this point I don't even really feel like they're different books, but more like they're just chapters in a very long story. I must admit that the ending of this book made me feel sadder than any book has ever made me feel. I kind of feel like a dork that a kid's book could do that to me, but I also think it's really cool at the same time. It's funny because I was so steadfastly opposed to reading these books, as I tend to have a strong aversion to most things that are universally popular (I also recognize the fallibility in this outlook). But when I was with Liz last year, she sat me down and demanded that we read the first book together, so I told her I would give her one chapter to convince me. Needless to say, halfway through the first chapter I was totally hooked. The story is great and the characters are brilliant and quirky, and I really can't get enough. So there it is, I am a total dork and I love Harry Potter.
