I heard this interview on cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias on ABC PM radio this evening. http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2014/s3977921.htm - I suspect that your tortured friend from the CIA suffers from this condition. The recommended response is to ignore them although you may wish him well in his counselling to overcome this psychiatric impairment. It is better than beating your head against a brick wall.

Got questions? Let Ylvis answer them in song.

1. What does the fox say? (And, how will you speak to that horse?)

2. What the fuck is a Stonehenge, anyway?

3. Can there be love amidst dubstep?

4. Is Jen Egeland truly an unsung hero in the cause of world peace?

5. When he says "work it", what exactly does he mean? A traditional employment...

OK. So I'm not going to get to do the big-time update I promised myself before Christmas rolls around.

Some time around new years, OK?

It'll have:
- house moving adventures and life changes
- why work is (still) shitting me off
- why some people around here have been shitting me off more than I would like (A Bit of a Rant)
- various...

I think the issue I'm addressing is that they are dressing it up with hope and framing it with the potential good times instead of focusing on the changes we need to make right now.

I understand that distracting us with a hopeful future sounds like a nice idea, but there are a lot of people out there complaining that things aren't changing, when they haven't figured out that the hard work has to come first; I think being nice and morbid would get the point across.

I don't think we have a debt crisis akin to others in the eurozone but we do have a high debt-to-GDP ratio, and it is something we as a country are worrying about. We're not comparing ourselves to others at this point, we're addressing our own concerns internally.
hodor:
Hihi,

Hmm. Truthfully, when I wrote my blog I hadn't considered that there would be flaws in his policy. If he was trying to reduce the debt, then I assumed that was the thing to do. After all, isn't he surrounded by some of the best economic minds in the country? Our debt is set to exceed 100% of GDP, which is unhealthy and worthy of concern, though not, as you say, a crisis. What we're not factoring in are the political pressures on him. I wonder if he is looking to reduce our debt because that will show tangible results sooner than expansionary policy, i.e. just in time for elections?

I'd say you sound right. Reducing unemployment seems more pressing that reducing our spending. I wonder why he's doing that then?

(I am gleefully enjoying a good discussion)

This is a little bit ridiculous. Last update a year ago, having just gotten back from Japan.

Now I'm just back from Japan again, and updating, finally.

If I'm good, I'll even update again, before Christmas, with pictures and everything.

In the meantime, this is kind of awesome.

Fair enough. Some of them seemed downright pleased about it lol.

Your envy is well justified, sir. I can only nod in agreement there.
heathen:
lmao. I'd have to say the Charity case sounds like the winning story so far.

Got back from Japan a fortnight or so ago. Almost 3 weeks there, moving between Osaka and Tokyo and Kyoto.

Many great experiences, much great food, and lots of wonderful sights.

Best bit of TV watching turned out to be a kids' show, Pitagora Suitchi. It's brilliant and clever. On every episode (or so it seems), they feature the "Algorithm March."

In this example,...

thanks for the link!..i have heard about OWS but didn't get the 99percent reference out of context!...i totally get where those 99 percent are coming from (being that my fiance and i are both unemployed with my new twin sons)..but i feel like camping out in large masses isn't going to achieve as much as coming up with our own plan and petitioning it might. the gov. sucks so obviously they're not going to come up with a resolution that they haven't already..we need to give them specifics of HOW we want the issue resolved..not just whine about WHAT the problem is!

We had the SGAU Ball a few weeks ago. It was great. Hot ladies, handsome devils and great costumes. Check us out.

Meantime: how to learn English while getting fit.

"How Dare You Say Such A Thing To Me."

Enjoy.

ahahaha, my fault for having not looked at the date this was posted. ah.
glad you feel special. i'm still extremely envious of your traveling. think you'll ever be coming back into the atlanta area again?
betterthantv:
First BLT. I should have made myself clearer. I left out the Black in LT. That's what I was referring to. And that is what Jerimiah Wright preaches at his Trinity Church. He doesn't deny it. Only Obama does.

Second, I know both the definition of Marxism and Socialism. I know it's hard for those on the Left to admit these are Obama's policy's. I guess we'll just have to debate until the end of time as to what Obam'a's goal for America is. I suppose anti-colonialism is a more accurate term than either Marxism or Socialism. It really doesn't matter what YOU want to call it. The main point I was making is that this president has a completely different vision for America than any other president in history. He does not believe in the free market. He does not believe in capitalism. Call me what you want but I have no doubt he is implementing the Cloward and Piven strategy.

I understand how Obama is a wet dream for the moocher society. If big government and total nanny state from cradle to grave is what gets you wet, than I see why you defend Obama so much. I never contend that the Republicans have all the answers or solutions. But I do feel that the modern day Democrats have become morally bankrupt. The progressives have taken over their party. Progressives, socialist, marxist, communist, whatever label you prefer, is by far the wrong answer for America. It's NEVER worked throughout history. Yet the Lefty always says the same thing (it hasn't worked because we haven't had the right people to implement it). All nonsense of course, but hey, who cares right? As long as those welfare checks keep coming!

Right now in the US, 42% of the population pays no taxes. How long do you think that is sustainable? whatever

1
Bah. This is silly.

I'm in an airport lounge at LAX, waiting to fly home. Been in Atlanta for almost a week. It's Monday night here and by the time I get home it'll be Wednesday morning. Combination of trans-Pacific flying time and international date line.

I've been wondering what to update with to try to make my life seem otherwise interesting. It hasn't been....

I saw a poster on Yahoo using the same photo as your profile pic, and I wondered if it was you for a moment.

I will wholeheartedly admit I was saddened when I realized it was, instead, a 20-something lady from (I think) Texas.

This is terribly random, but it popped into my head for some reason.

This is my placeholder Christmas-break update.

TheFuckOffGirl and I went to the US (specifically San Francisco and New York City) in November, and had a wonderful time and I managed to meet some very cool SG members, including people I've talked with and admired for several years. I also made new friends. Longer expanded version of trip-story next time.

We're having a few weeks off,...
