A nurse out on the floor by our office brought in a cheese cake sampler and an ice cream cake which he offered us to partake of. It was early this morning when I had time to eat dessert and when I opened up the freezer (yay for ice cream, Snickers brand at that) I was greeted by this...
Happiness. I'm not sure if I've ever tasted happiness before but I will have to say that while savoring the creamy, the peanutty and the caramelly I pushed all else aside and felt happiness, tasted happiness.
And it was good. Sometimes it's the simplest things that make moments of life better.

Anyway, I have a better understanding now wtf this RAID thing is, and btw it is OS 9 that I'm running then not classic. I got an old G3 startup disk that has OS 9 on it (I forget which version). I am running Tiger so hopefully it will work... I vaguely recall someone telling me the drive would need firewire and it does have firewire ports so I guess I'm ok there. Not knowing any details about it though I had assumed it was a speed issue and that this is outdated info, since USB 2.0 is faster than firewire.
In the menu I do recall a 1 partition option which basically looked like no partitoning, just one volume. But I guess it serves some purpose, and you go through the naming of it. There is a RAID tab in this dialogue box that kinda scares me after people say it will reformat both drives. I hope there's some kind of 'NO RAID' checkbox clearly laid out.
So I don't know I guess I didn't really ask any more questions here really, maybe you could just clarify a few of the things I mentioned if that makes sense. Oh yeah, should I definitely do a 10gb partition if I'm going to put OS 9 on this drive? Thanks a lot. I really need to get this thing done. I haven't even been able to download the news for over a week.
I have 2 hand me down scanners here, and the newer one does not work so well. I want to try out this older one but when I tried to install the proprietary software I think it would not let me or at least it said that I need OS 9 to run the software. So that's why I've been inquiring about OS9 and Classic (which I'm told would probably run the software, and the mini supports that environment but at this point I think it might be more work anyhow).
My mini's hard disk is almost completely full, and I have some of my image files only on a zip drive right now. I've replaced the old G3 hard drive that had been put in an external case with this new WD 160 gb hard disk. I spoke with someone at a computer shop who said that only the early minis can boot OS9 and that I needed to call Apple to find out by giving the serial #, etc. I did that and the guy said it can run OS 9, but he's not sure it will boot from an external drive... so that seems to still be the big question. I might call that shop again now and see what they think... the Apple guy gave me a few links though that he thought might be helpful. Here is one that sort of addresses the topic but really just leads me to more resources....

I think this evening if I haven't any other info I am just going to partition the drive with 1 10gb partition as you suggested and go from there. Thank again.
