I just saw part of the appointment process for Burris in Illinois to be senator. He was staunchly supported by someone who I suppose is important if you have him backing you (but not as celebrity as Revs. J Jackson or A. Sharpton). This "supporter" was called up to the podium and proceeded to announce his support for Burris, a black man, and to tout off about how more African Americans need to be appointed to the US Congress. No, they don't. We don't need more Caucasian Americans just as we don't need more Latin Americans, Asian Americans or any other ethnic group. What we need is good people who do a good job representing their constituents. This country seriously needs to get off its "reformed" segregation. Just because I'm white doesn't mean I have to have a white senator. I understand how minority groups (I don't like that term) feel they need a louder voice in government but a corrupt politician is corrupt no matter what skin pigmentation he or she has. I can never begin to fathom the hardships enacted on indentured people a century and a half ago (and still suffered up to thirty years ago) but, you know, anyone my age descended from those peoples haven't known them either. They need to get away from the thought they have been oppressed. They cheapen what their grandparents and forefathers did truly endure.
Anyways, off topic. I've done some research on this Burris. He seems a good candidate and from what I've read (though my research can't be called conclusive)I would respect him more as a senator from Illinois instead of a federal lobbyist. Fucking lobbyists.
