I have a new residence. My father will (the legalities are actually in last will and testament Hell right now but being the only child, well, it's duh) inherit his father's estate and I get to live in my grandfather's house... as soon as they run high speed internet service to it.
Moving sucks.
With certain relations unwilling to help, I've move a good bit of my stuff all by my lonesome, including the TV that has landed me in bed for a few days of no back lifting. Moved and desk, had a monitor and my TV (the other one) rained on. Arrived dog ass tired but unloaded all the same
In the rain.
Paint cans and the ripping up of carpet is in my future. The buying of linens and the rearranging of collectibles amassed over fifty years (having a couple of potters in the family never helps, my grandmother had fifty painted St. Nicks in her collection, and all those fucking fake plants and staring eye dolls). My bedroom and office (I have a real office now!) has hardwood floors (Hardwood Floors! can you believe they covered them up with ugly carpet?), the rest of the house in worn linoleum or, in the den, carpet. Of course all I really need is a bedroom and Office that isn't the same room.
It's really a tricky scenario though. It's still my grandfather's house, and I don't want to gut it. But if I don't personalize it I won't be able to live there. If the ghosts from the past are too comfortable they will continue to haunt me.
