1) It's pronounced Bang-GOR not BANG-er.
2) It's was supposed to be called Sunberry. Way back in the 1800's the guy they sent to register the town was drunk and humming the tune of a hymn. When asked what the name of the town was he answered the name of the hymn.
3) There are still companies named Sunberry in town.
4) We're the third largest city in Maine. We have 30,000 people. Not exactly a bustling Metropolis.
5) Stephen King lives here. He held me as a baby.
6) In 1984 a young gay man was tossed off a bridge into the Kenduskaeg river by 4 high school students. He died of hypothermia. His death sparked the gay rights groups that became Equality Maine and helped make same-sex marriage legal in Maine.
7) His death was also the inspiration for It.
8) The neighborhood I live in is called Little City. It's one of the first planned neighborhoods in the country. The businessman who sold the homes was Jewish and sold most of the homes to his friends at his synagogue. Most of their old homes were burned down in a fire. Little City was right near a street car which could bring them to the synagogue without breaking the Sabbath.
9) That synagogue is one of the oldest in the USA. It's now a funeral home.
10) The Bangor Symphony Orchestra is the OLDEST non-continuous Symphony Orchestra in America.
11) Our airport has the 2nd longest runway in the continental US. Which is why a lot of planes make emergency landings there.
12) The airport used to be Dow Airforce Base. It was named after a guy who died in a training exercise.
13) It's snowing right now.
14) Little City still has a high concentration of people who are Jewish.
