SXSW this year was awesome! --
Today I saw a buncha bands at the outdoors Hideout party including Neko Case, Calexico (did a fucking totally rad version of "Alone Again Or" by Love with Nic Dunger singing), Brokeback, Boas, Kelly Hogan, Sally Timms (who is NOT A snob by the way I was wrong...) Then I also saw Iron and Wine, somebody on Drag City whose name I can't remember but she sounds like Thalia Zedek fronting Steely Dan, a few minutes of Neil Hagerty from Royal Trux's solo show, and the awesome Stars As Eyes band. Hooray for them.
All in all it was about as much fun as you can have without having sex:
* My picture was in the local paper today!
* I got along really well with my partner Steve when honestly I hadn't expected to.
* Spent less than $100 on records. Did not buy a single book even though I entered a bookstore.
* Our bands totally rocked the motherfucking house (in like a low-key way.)
* I met Neko Case in person and talked with her a minute without being a complete fanboy.
* Saw many, many friends and acquaintances who I all generally and genuinely dig and who all are doing pretty cool stuff with music -- making it, writing about it, selling it, packaging it, digging it. Since I stayed away from the Matador showcase (only because it was the same night as mine) I avoided old nemesises.
* Ate great food (Cuban today, actually.)
* Discovered a couple awesome new bands.
* Got to meet Itsalive (girls, look out!)
* Driving that tricked-out new red cadillac was fucking fun!
Tomorrow I travel most of the day and hopefully will see my pal Wendy's newborn before I leave.
Sorry this is I think this migh tbe the poorest written entry I've done but I am BEAT!

Since you missed Matador I suppose you missed out on Liz Phair (who I used to be in love with back in the day) but I heard she is actually making an Avril Lavigne move and that like half her new album was written by "The Matrix". I fucking swear to god I'm not making this up! I would have seriously enjoyed your report on that apparent train wreck. Also, I heard Dion played and was actually good!?! Anyway, have a smooth trip home (you oughtta just rock the caddy back!).

I've been listening the shit out of Neko Case lately, especially 'Blacklisted'. I can't even imagine what a Samuel Beam show would be like. I've never gone to sxsw or even nxnw. I must be some kind of jackass.
