Last night I saw an awesome program of silent films, 'The Silent Picture Show' -- Chaplin, B. Keaton, Felix the motherfucking Cat, (the original) Little Rascals & more -- all projected really big. It was this campily staged selection put together as a tour from the only silent cinema in the U.S.A., which is in L.A. The real star was the 90 year old organist, Bob Mitchell, whos been playing to silent films for 70 fucking years!!! He looked so happy and youthful during the films then afterwards went back to being an old man again. It was, like, inspiring, though.
This evening, I think I have a date with this chick who has like 4 years sober and is into excellent writers and music and stuff. Gotta get one of my nice snap button cowboy shirts ready...
****COMMERCIAL BREAK-- Anyone in NYC?? Go see this movie HORNS AND HALOS at Cinema Village TODAY an awesome documentary about the guy who wrote that banned bio of George W, Fortunate Son. Mike Galinsky made the movie and says like no one was at the screenings yesterday. HBO has bought the flick but you really want to see it in the theatre, really. People in Seattle flipped when we showed it here: The film runs at 1:15, 3:05, 7:20, and 9:25 at cinema village (22 E 12th st) We'll be doing q and a at the 7:20 screening and would love to see you there. Why do I write such long messages? Dude, I dont know, it was a rhetorical (read: dumb) question thanks for humoring me, though, you guys rule. Kim Gordon is 3 years older than Elvis C., Itsalivemedia got that right.
I think the clothes are dry in the dryer now (ahhhhhh -- the pleasures of semi-suburban life) so Im outie.

Well, the Pixies really signify a very specific time in my life and I will always love that band.
I do know The Creation....ANOTHER Shel Talmy production. Wes Anderson's use of MAKIN' TIME in RUSHMORE is just awesome.

i love seeing old men do amazing youthful things...then go back to being your grndpa. the composer George Crumb is that way. My composition professor David Sargent is that way. Composer and electronic music pioneer Robert Ashley is totally that way - he and I discussed the latest software and he actually knew what he was saying when he complimented me on my "sounds".
yay for that girl...
