A NEW BREED OF PUNK IS ON THE RISE!
who is this band climbing their way out of the gutter to glory?
If you saw The Cottonettes in passing you’d find it hard to link the trio with their sound. There is little to suggest that the band creates anything to do with "punk". There’s something about their look that brings a British aesthetic to mind, similar in aura to bands like Arctic Monkeys and the late 2000s indie-rock scene; nothing like the ‘77 culture that would have been part of the Oi! scene.
And yet, the band seems to have merged these two seemingly incompatible genres together, with cited influences like the Jam, and the Clash alongside Blur, and Graham Coxon. It seems that the band’s appointment as an “Oi! Pop” band is a truthful identification of the sound. - Punk Prospect
How it all began
The band hailing from the Surrey/Hampshire borders were formed by Cockney twanged ragamuffin, and hair stylist, Benjamin Madle, in February 2012. A catalogue of songs about his social observations, and encounters with bizarre characters mixed with a despondence for the hum drum made Ben realised, it was time to form a band. He quickly recruited an old rival, renowned curly headed gobsh*te, Josh Young, who brought in the ex navy sailor, and international play boy, Marty "The Human Party" Dixon.
They have played high profile gigs, with award winning bands like, The Virginmary's & Oi legends, Hardskin at some of the best venues in the UK like, The Boileroom, Proud Galleries, Putney Halfmoon, West End Centre, for some of the most respected promoters.
Most recently they have been shorted listed for MTV unsigned, made fans of BBC radio's Tom Robinson, Amazing Radio's Aaron Phillips, Bella Union's Simon Raymonde, and The Huffington Post, as well as being regularly featured as a favourite on Emerging Icons, following the highly rated "DEMO 1" EP. This year they are expected to play at some of the UK's most established independent festivals, peppered with the release of several singles.
