They've actually been sporting the 3-point bindings (their proprietary "3D" insert system) for a very long time now.
But! YOu're totally right about the change in insert patterns: they're trying out a 2-insert system on the UnInc board series for next year. One of my housemates is already on that board and he swears by it. Nice stiff baseplates mean that it's more the stability of the binding itself than the inserts in the board. It's (as he would say with a Kiwi accent "rad").
