So it had to eventually happen. I crashed my bike this morning.
Story goes like this (copy-posted from my live journal)
Well this morning I was biking down a hill. Hammered through the yellow light in the middle.
I saw a pedestrian enter the road from between two cars.
Yelled
Tried to dodge.
Barely clipped him.
Went down (probably doing 30 mph, bike computer says max was 35)
slid for 10-20 feet on my back (thankfully mostly on my bag).
Got Up, Collected my various items that were strewn over the road (pump, bottle, etc)
Hobbled to the sidewalk and preceded to exchange information with the pedestrian (who was undamaged)
Total damage to bike so far (dropped it off at the shop only a little while ago):
Bent Front Rim
Bent Derailleur hanger
Misaligned Pickup for cycle computer
Scratched to hell rear derailleur
Cost (cheapest Scenario): $52
Cost (if i need to replace wheel and hanger): $450 -$500
Damage to me:
4x6 inch road rash on my right hip (just behind the bone)
2x6 inch road rash on my upper right thigh below hip bone extending rearward
Went to the emergency room. Paid my $40 co-pay for them to put me in a hospital gown, Dab the wound with a wet towel. Slather neosporin all over the wound, give me a blister pack of 600 mg ibuprofen and send me on my way.
Hopefully everything turns out ok and this will not turn into long-term pain and it will be easy to get the guy to take responsibility for walking out in traffic and paying for the damage he caused.
Pictures will be forthcoming when I get home to my digicamera.
