Too much time between updates. I've been busy.
Go see Sin City. Go see Sin City now.
Had a bizarre experience last night. Went out and partied and fell asleep in my car. Woke up, and didn't know where I was for a second. I thought that I was back in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Bizarre.
Going up to DC the end of this week. The downstairs neightbor suggested the holocaust museum as something that I should not miss. A relative of one of my friends actually survivded the holocaust, and I think that visiting this is a good way to honor what she went through.
It started me thinking about how two thirds of Europe's Jewish population was killed during that time. I realize that there are certain things that I just can't wrap my brain around. I lack the ability to even put in perspective. Somewhere close to *6* MILLION people were put to death. That's 30 cities the size of Roanoke with a 0 survival rate. I can't begin to fathom how one group of people could be exterminated like that.
Kinda makes you think about what one human can do to another human, enh. Damn, we've gotta be the most fucked up species on the planet..

have fun in DC!! i have some friends that have been to the holocaust museum. i haven't been there myself i am usually too distracted by the art exhibits in the smithsonian. but i would like to check out the holocaust museum. i imagine the museum has quite an intense impact on most who visit...that it is something that stays with you a long time.
take care!
Now for my mandatory political rant: the 6 million Jews who died is a horrible number to fathom, but here are some other numbers. Over 20 million Russians died during the war, and not just soldiers. That includes civilians. And in our own fire bombing campaign on Japan in the final months of the war we destroyed 60-90% of dozens of Japanese cities. Think of cities like Cleveland, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Seattle, and Oakland for proportion, ordinary cities about that size that really have no strategic importance but are razed anyway. That period in time was immensely fucked up on all sides.
