Made a sideways move in work and am now toiling in customer care. Basically i deal with people speaking to me like shit, whinging about warranties and threatening legal action over trivial matters. On the other hand though its probably less work/responsibility than before, the days fly by, no more working weekends AND im on more money. Cashback!
My 360 died. and I had to send it back. Didnt have the RROD but it was pissing me about with reading discs and I kept getting error messages about the game being scratched or dirty when it wasnt. Installing helped sometimes, but some stuff wouldnt even install because of the dodgy drive. Microsoft insisted it was under warranty (should've expired like 3 months ago) so figured I'd send it back while I could. UPS fucked me about by missing the collection because I'd "closed early" which isnt really a possibility for a residential address but whatever. Impressed with Microsoft's turnaround (less than 24 hours) and I'm now watching it like a hawk to see when it'll be back. It's now left Barking. Delivery tomorrow, perhaps? *glee*
It's been about 2 months since I attended the Birmingham Comics Show with a couple of my friends who're involved in small press and the very lovely Ikaruga As always he was a perfect gentleman and guided me around my first con like the naive young virgin I was, dispending handy hints and pointing out creators who I may not recognise.
Sketches ahoy!
Annoyingly now I have sketch fever and will probably find myself haunting future conventions and trying to stave off DVT while queuing for artistic nuggets. I blame you, Ikaruga
I done gone bought a Blu-Ray player and have been enjoying the hi-def wonders of things like the Watchmen Ultimate Cut (surprised at just how much it adds) and The Dark Knight. I also got The Prisoner on bluray which is stupidly pretty for a 40 year old TV show.
Again with the rampant consumerism I went and bought myself a new guitar. My original idea was to get one provided I pass my exam (more on that in a minute) but a trip into Dawsons in Chester turned into "I'll phone Liverpool and see if they have one" which turned into a drive to Manchester to try out (and buy) one there.
I love it. Its fucking gorgeous. At 700 bones I've promised myself I'll never buy another guitar again (honest)
I had my exam this past Sunday and fucked it up royal, with a combination of nerves and bad luck. I know, i know I said that last year but this time I'm convinced i buggered it. I got given a rhythm piece in 6/8 which is enough of a ballache but it was also full of split-bars which made it stupidly hard for me. Also it was printed in a weird way that I've never seen before, so its very possible that they werent split bars at all. Then all of the theory parts of the exam were the harder things like recreating phrases the examiner plays rather than easy stuff like "Can you explain what the action on a guitar is?"
Struggling not to be discouraged I'm throwing myself into it a little more than I had been. Might try finding some people to jam (urgh, that felt dirty) with just as some kind of motivator. Given what i just spent on that guitar I'd be a colossal prick to quit now because of one bad exam.
I'll leave you with a band who I've been listening to a lot lately. They do a stonking cover of "Love is a Battlefield" which has sadly disappeared from their Myspace and now i cant find it anywhere. Bah
I promise it wont be 3 months until the next one (unless you ask nicely) Hope everyone has a spiffing christmas if I dont speak to you before then.
Also you must come to more meets i demand it.
