I seem to get geekier and geekier the older I get. Growing up I don't know what you could label me. I mean I know what people thought about me but I don't know if there was a specific label. I listened to all kinds of metal, loved gore movies, and read obsessively about serial killers. So yes, I was odd, but people thought of me more as a future potential serial killer then a geeky kid. Now there's no denying the fact that I am the geekiest of all my friends and family. It's been a gradual progression. I started dabbling in horror comics the summer between high school and college. That however came to a quick end as I found no money. Then sometime during my junior year I somehow managed to afford a breath addiction with some various horror manga which eventually ran up as my wallet thinned. Then my inner geek was basically kept at bay do to money issues.
As soon I got out of school and started working more, even just part time, I began to get back into comics. This time however super hero comics. This was started by a discussion I had with one of my friends. I was telling him how I always loved mythology and read it obsessively during my grade school days. A conversation ensued about how the United States lacks a mythology (there is of course the rich and amazing mythology of the Native Americans, but that's an entirely different population). He then explained he felt like the super heroes of DC and Marvel comics were our version of mythology. After all what are myths if they are not moral tales involving extraordinary man and unusual powers. As I began working full time I could afford more comics and now consume comics.
Then there is my recent fascination with Japan. This is not so new, as I have always been fascinated by Japanese culture both past and present, however it was now that I could afford to buy my little bits and pieces. I could never learn a language no matter how I tried but I decided to try again. I thought of trying to learn Arabic again but at the only reason I ever wanted to learn Arabic was as a potential advantage for several jobs I was interested in at the time, as I no longer am interested in those jobs Arabic would be fun but no more useful then any other language. Instead I decided on Japanese, for two reasons. One Japan is one of the non-English speaking countries I would most like to visit and I think it would be awesome to be able to understand at least a bit of what I hear and see. And two, Japan seems to be a trendy language to learn, which while I generally do not buy into trends I see an advantage in this one as it means more people to potentially be able to learn from/practice with.
I was going to write more, but as is usual I get bored of writing about myself.
Why did I write this? In my typical style I have no idea, other then that I just went to Best Buy to buy Tokyo Gore Police and am about to watch it. I'm pretty excited. Also when I grabbed it I saw a movie called Tokyo Zombie right next to is, which it says is essentially the Japanese Shaun of the Dead, and bought that as well.
side note: if you have read at least a few of my blogs you may notice that i have two different writing styles. i can't really explain why, i don't do in consciously. when i write something i plan out in my head i tend to use capitalization and pay more attention to grammar. when i write more random bullshit i don't bother with capitalization and such.... i find it interesting.
