Random thinkings. (That's what I am gonna call them now, because fuck thoughts that's why)
Lately I have found myself more and more attracted to freckles. I cannot recall havng thoughts one way or the other on the subject any time in my past, but right now I think they are kinda sexy. Perhaps it's because the sun draws them out and it's a sign of better weather coming our way, but who cares, they are cute and I like em.
Baseball season is 8 or so games in and I am loving it, I might not be glued totally to the tv, but I love having the game playing while I do whatever it is I do. Of course, though, when Chipper comes up to bat I am glued to the tv, that and ay and every Braves homer or web gem.
Last week the state board of higher education in North Dakota voted to have UND, my alma mater, do away with their nickname and to start working on a new one and getting their sports into the Summit conference. I will miss being a supporter of the Fighting Sioux, but I have been aware of the fight over the nickname since my first year there. Some Native Americans do not want it, some do, and in 2005 NCAA got involved in the nations schools and banned Native nicknames unless the tribes okayed it. One tribe was in support of the UND nickname, and one hadn't voted yet, but either way it's basically done now.
I will miss the nickname we had, and wonder what the nickname will be in the future, but I choose not to be angry or fight over this issue. I read friends from ND on facebook and how angry they seem, and it just seems pointless to me. The fight is over, it has been decided, we might as well move on and find a kick ass nickname that all people can get behind no matter what race, creed, color, or nationality we might be. Now of course I come from this from two standpoints that make me kind of an outsider to some in support of the name. Those being 1) I am a Montanan so I didn't grow up with it, and 2) I am an anthropologist and I have taken many Native American classes so I try to respect the other side as I know that I can never fully understand it even if I don't totally agree with it on all things.
Books are such a vice of mine, at least I better my mind while I indulge that vice.
Joss Whedon to direct the Avengers movie...yes please. Yep I just got excited for a Marvel movie and it's almost at the level of Nolan's Batman flicks (not really but I like Whedon a lot so don't tell him).
Crosswords in ink only, pencil = you're doing it wrong.
I am starting to wonder what life would be like without a project haning over my head, wouldn't that be a nice feeling? Then why do I keep procrastinating?
Saw those guys on Craig Ferguson and went right to iTunes, the whole album is damn good, and the singers voice is pretty much fantastic. Oh yeah, you're welcome.
Oh wow, I just watched the Doctor Who Season Five first look that I downloaded off of iTunes, holy freaking shit balls is that going to be badass. Now I definitely can't wait for Saturday to get here and for that thing of beauty to show up on my television. I will still miss David Tennant quite a bit, but that little 9 minute viewing I just had makes me think that Matt Smith will do just fine. Am I a traitor?
