I got a nasty looking avocado from food not bombs that was gonna be thrown out. It looked like a 10,000 yr old piece of dried volcanic ash, some parts were dented, and the skin was a dark ashy gray hue. It could've been confused with a rock, by the unskilled gatherer. So, I took it, because I wanted to give it a chance. I'm so glad I did, when I split it open, the most beautiful greens were present. I cut my knife a little further and discovered how ripe it was and how creamy the center was. By far the best avocado I've ever had. The avocado represented more than just a nice pick to me, it was a revelation. Never judge something before discarding, you never know what you might have missed.

I hope to someday live somewhere where I can grow avocados. I mean, they got guacamole inside there!
