Ok.
I quit my job. not sure how I feel about it yet... work has really changed. I mean, when I first started working at the game shop, it was awesome. good job, great coworkers, fun atmosphere, supportive manager. now? it's nothing of the sort...
worse, the place has become somewhat abercrombie...
When my previous manager and I took over the store, he was adamant that the store represent as MANY different nationalities as possible. Further, he made sure that the people he hired, on top of being multicultural were ALSO gifted sales-people AND were excellent at customer service. After he left and the present manager took over, that just changed...
So now, instead of having a chinese guy, a jewish GIRL, a couple of black guys, a jewish guy, a white guy and a spanish guy (my boss) you have a store that has five white GUYS and me(ps: I'm not white). And the qualiity of those new hires? well, let's just say and all I can keep thinking is, "how did this happen?"
Now, before I be accused of racial paranoia let me say that I have no problem with ANY nationality. My parents were very careful to make sure I was exposed to a great many cultures. But I have to wonder, with all the EXCELLENT resums that came in... why were only the white guys hired? and... why did the people, who helped made the store one of the top ten after it was one of the bottom five, leave?
The present manager found "good" reasons for "encouraging" (read: unjust persecution) the others to leave, and ultimately, that's fine... but I can't help but notice who replaced everyone... and I can't help but notice how a job that I once arrived early to without fail has become a job I now arrive to ON TIME and leave as quickly as possible.
When I began this post, I wasn't sure if I'd made the right choice in leaving... as I'm finishing this blog, all I keep asking myself is, "why did you stay so long?"
