God I hate intolerant people! So a friend and I are supposed to go to Seattle saturday for a mutual friends housewarming party. She asked if I wanted to get some breakfast sunday and I told her that I am planning on meeting up with a friend from this site for breakfast but she is welcome to come along. This is the transcript of what took place. I'll call her K and myself J.
K... I don't want to go with you to meet someone on the internet... especially from that site.
J... Wow!
K...What?
J... That was a pretty awful statement.
K...Why?
J... Just because she is on thew site that doesn't make her a slut or a bad person.
K... I didn't say that at all. I'm uncomfortable going with you to meet someone you've never met. In particular, from that type of site.
J... That's sure how it sounded. The site is full of regular people. Just like facebook or myspace.
K... So have you seen this woman naked or close to it?
J... Yes she is one of the models. But that has nothing to do with wanting to meet her.
K... It's still a really awkward, uncomfortable situation I don't want to be a part of.
J... Sure. I'm not trying to force you into anything. I'm just telling you my plan.
K... Right. I am just really uncomfortable.
J... I don't understand why but that's your issue not mine.
K... I don't respect women, or men for that matter, who do that.
J... Well that's a pretty ignorant opinion. Maybe we shouldn't talk about this.
K... How is that ignorant?
J... Well you know almost nothing about a site with thousands of people and yet you have no respect for them because they are on there. Isn't that the definition of ignorant?
K... Are you serious? I don't respect the way they portray themselves. It's degrading to women. To me, it's ignorant to be part of that.
J... You don't know anything about the site! How can you possibly know how they portray themselves? Because they are naked? Have you never seen a movie with nudity? Do you have no respect for every woman who has ever been in Playboy?
K... Forget it. This is the same opinion I've had for 10 years and I'm just trying to tell you it, not change your mind.
J...Well I'm sure your mother would be proud.
K... Fuck you John.
J... Alright that was mean and I'm sorry. But you have really made me angry.
K... You shouldn't be. I'm allowed to have my opinion about this. And as a woman, it's probably going to differ from yours.
J... I shouldn't be sorry or angry?
K... Angry.
J... I have every right to be angry. You criticized an entire comunity of people like me. A comunity that I care about! And you know almost nothing about it.


So that was my day. Am I over reacting? This is someone I have considered a close friend of mine but after today I am seriously questioning our friendship! I just don't understand! It seems to me that she is the one degrading women. By judging harshly people she has never met just because they are comfortable enough with their bodies and sexuality to pose nude. I'm mean it's not like this site is full of hardcore pornography! (not that there is anything wrong with that either) These are beautiful photos of the most beautiful thing on earth! Women! I don't know what to do. Any opinions out there? Should I just tell her to fuck off or give it time and hopefully calm down? I know no matter what I won't forget this and things will never be the same! Advice please! Hope everyone else is having a better day.
