Funny story, and sort of on point, in seventh grade I was getting a C in english, but somehow made "student of the month". When I asked my teacher about it, she said "You're a great writer, when you actually write". Ever since then, I became more confident in my writing. It was the first thing anyone ever told me I was really good at.
