The problem with my short stories, the idea is bigger than the story but I'm always too impatient to even begin to write a book so it's a bad short story and nothing more than the beginnings of a book idea. Someday, someday. It will happen. Maybe.

Glad you like it! That paragraph is really the only bit sufficiently self-contained in the story to extract. Worked on developing the story idea a bit more today, tweaked it some with an interesting plot twist. Now for the hard part - sticking with the work of writing it out.

is also going back to school. They may be my heroes, reminders that it is possible to reinvent life and pursue dreams at any point. Taking a wrong path for a time does not mean being stuck on the wrong path forever.

within me over that - I'm not crazy about them going through what I now consider clear indoctrination. Do you live in Huntsville? One of my best friends from high school lives there.  He is also an atheist.  We are few and far between here in the Bible Belt.  But he indicated he had a good group of organized atheist friends.  Maybe they have kids activities? Also...are you familiar with camp quest?

Unfortunately no, not in Huntsville, but relatively close here south of Nashville. There are actually a few atheist groups and gatherings in Nashville, it's nice having them in the vicinity. And I'm not familiar with camp quest - that something in Huntsville?
