Hey everyone,
I wanted to write a few words about my latest set "Zefpocalypse" as despite an overwhelmingly positive response and hilarious comments bordering on fan fiction, there were a couple of comments that alerted me to the fact that some viewers (despite the title, description and tags) have found this set to be some sort of ignorant sexualisation of gun crime.
Who else is a big Die Antwoord fan? I've been obsessed with the South African rap-rave duo who reclaimed the slur "Zef" (meaning white trash) for around 2 years. I first discovered them when they appeared in the Neil Blomkamp film "Chappie" as gangsters who reprogramme a government built robot for crime, they bring their "zef-style" into the film which incorporates crazy hair and make-up, plasters/bandaids, plastic attire and colourful customised weaponry.
Zefpocalypse was about reinacting this fictional-subculture and paying tribute to one of my all time favourite films, their role in the film is ignorant to gun control and morality in general, and their trigger discipline is similar to that of the scene in Pulp Fiction in the back of the car.
That's what I'm reinacting in this set, not model, highly-trained firearm guidance for the responsible citizen.
So within this context, the use of (replica) guns in the set are similar to the use of guns in say a Tomb Raider set or a Tank Girl set, they are referencing a character, story and fictional subculture, and not the focus of the set.
I hope this helps to clarify because I had a lot of (responsible) fun shooting this and have been REALLY excited for it to come out 💗
