Oh we'll get you off that smack
Oh yes we will!
Cause the smack can lead to crack
Oh yes it can!
(Carl, you know what I'm talking about!)

I returned the dress and got another one. I can't even go there: it's much too traumatic to discuss. But I thank everyone for their support (no intended play on words there regarding the breast issue!)
I started a new unit on poetry with my 10th graders this month. The way I teach the concept of "mood" is I show them various prints of paintings and ask them to write down the emotions brought forth by each painting. This week I showed them Francisco Goya's "Saturn Eating his Children," and here is a snippet of some of the written comments I received. I cracked up at many of them, but it's a bit frightening how much you can psychoanalyze their responses...
This painting confuses and disturbs me a little -Jessica
Good for you Jessica! I'm confident you won't be following in Ailene Wornos' footsteps.
I feel like that's messed up-- he's eating a baby! That doesn't happen everyday! -Lizvette
'Good to know there isn't an underground cannibal cult in the vicinity!
This painting makes me feel like laughing at the fact that somebody could draw something so horrible. -Ben
Hmmm laughing? Don't you live near my apartment? I'll be sure to lock the doors tight tonight.
It makes me feel very aggressive and yet scared that I might be eaten. -Christopher

I think that the person feels like their life or soul is being sucked away, maybe by a job or a lady friend. -Kyle
Hahahaha I think we have a future psychoanalyst here. Either that or a serial woman-hater.
Who would paint that? Whoever it is needs to see a therapist! He or she must have had some mommy issues! -Josh
Hee hee hee! Way to go on the Oedipus/Greek tragedy unit tie-in Josh!
I don't know. It's kind of cool because the monster just bit and ripped the guy's head off! -Heath
Um... and just where do YOU live, Heath? Maybe an alarm system is in order.
Just a bit of my career amusements for sharing.
Hope you enjoyed. Oh, ps: I saw The Ice Harvest last night and tried a Mudslide Martini. Ice Harvest gets 1 of 5 stars: it sucked. The martini, on the other hand...
for my temporarily-absentee boyfriend:
What if I came knocking on your front door some night
Would you open a window and drop me down the key?
And what if I came knocking on your bedpost that same night
Would you open up your heart and try to get the best of me?
What if I came kicking and scared you a little bit
And I came on strong, would you think there was something wrong with me?
