I received this message today from a teaching program I participated in last year for teaching environmental education;
"The application for the 2010 Toyota International Teacher Program to the Galapagos Islands is now available online. Fully funded by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., and administered by the Institute of International Education, this professional development opportunity for educators aims to advance environmental stewardship and global connectedness in U.S. schools and communities. The program will take place November 20 December 4, 2010 and the deadline to apply is May 26, 2010. Full-time classroom teachers and librarians of all subjects for grades 6 12 are eligible to apply. If you are interested in applying, please visit www.toyota4education.com for eligibility requirements, application instructions, and FAQs.
Please also help us spread the word about this unique opportunity by sharing this information with your colleagues and friends."
right, so all well and good, yes?
"Fully funded by Toyota Motor Sales"
You're sending how many teachers to the Galapagos... on what money?
Can't apply anyway. Shame.
In other news, Andrey Arshavin is pretty sexist. Among a few other comments, I found this gem:
"12. From Lucky
Hi Andrey! You know I love football! And mostly because of you, I want to really thank you for that. But the problem is that Im a girl, but I really love to play. A lot of people say that its a men's game. What shall I do? After all, I want to do it professionally. What do you think about girls playing football?
Arshavin: When girls like football, I think its ok. But I think that the level of women's football is too low to take it seriously."
Maybe not as popular, but "too low to take [it] seriously?" Eat shit.
not as popular =/= unskilled, similar to the fact that popular, well known football doesn't really mean all the players are any good. Also, I doubt he knows there is a pro US womens league, that is actually quite good, and I'd personally like to see him play the Brazilian women. He'd break a leg, and rightfully so.
