Hello all my peeps in SG-land
So I just got back from the wonderful land of Des Moines, Iowa. All joking aside, it is really pretty there. Very green, very "Americana" Definitely a different batch of people in the midwest, but it was fun. It was also great to see my friends again that moved there last year. Made me realize how much I miss them. I also had fun with their daughter, who was barely 2 when they left CA, and is now 3 1/2. We had fun being silly and playing Barbies (yes, I actually played Barbies with her).
So while I was in Iowa, besides visiting my friends, I had a great opportunity. One of the aforementioned Iowa friends, Kellie, has a younger brother who is a member of the band The Envy Corps . They were recently signed by Vertigo records and are currently touring in Europe. They have also done many U.S. dates with The Killers this year. Anyway, while I was in Iowa they did 2 shows with The Killers - one in Des Moines and one in St. Paul, MN. I got to go to both shows, be backstage and all that fun stuff. Traveled with The Envy Corps up to St. Paul in their tour van. They're a great bunch of guys. I also got to witness Brandon Flowers (lead singer of The Killers) destroy everyone in some backstage Ping Pong. The best part however was that I got to take photos at both shows while The Envy Corps was onstage. I got an official Killers tour photo pass, so I was inbetween the barrier and the stage, and onstage, for both shows taking photos. They would not let me take photos of The Killers unfortunately, (only the Envy Corps) but the experience was still amazing. I took almost 1000 photos. It was quite a challenge too - to get the right combination of exposure and shutter speed and all that, taking pictures in such low light. A few choice photos are up on my photo blog: Into the Side Hatch if you're interested.
Other than the Killers/Envy Corps shows, I also got to visit Madison County, home of the famous "Bridges of Madison County". BEAUTIFUL place, and I took lots of photos there too, including photos of the birthplace of John Wayne. Overall it was a great trip - I had little sleep, living the life alongside a bunch of rock stars, but I was sad to leave.
On another note, I could use a little assistance. I am going away again in July to my parents' vacation home in Swan Valley, Idaho. I normally would take my dogs to a kennel I've been using for years when on vacation, but this time I'm going to be gone for 17 days, so the cost would be ridiculous (like, over $800). So I figured I would try to get a house/dog sitter instead. Now, obviously I won't let just ANYone stay in my house with my 2 "boys" so I figured I would put the call out to the groovy people in the SG community for any recommendations in the LA area. If any of you are interested in a little extra cash, and wouldn't mind staying in my house for a couple weeks with my 2 insane & snuggly dogs, (use of awesome home theater system included) please let me know.
That's all for now, back to work!
Waffles,
George
Wow - I'm not feelin' the love. Nobody even wished me a Happy Birthday
(shameless pathetic begging for Birthday wishes commencing)
