There is this zoo in my town. Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. There is this one section of forest called "Five Mile Drive" that surrounds the forested area next to the park. It's got hundreds of trails and picnic areas... places to just disappear. To lose yourself, or to find yourself.

My place... is beyond the boundaries.

In a few key parts... there have been sections of chain link fence erected to prevent foolish people from dancing around the cliffs of Pt. Defiance, and falling to their demise in the churning waters of Puget Sound. In one little place... you can get past the fence, into the outskirts of the land... and edge yourself around the trees and foliage to the very edge of the earth. There's nothing in front of you but ocean and sky... and in the far distance, the serene islands that speckle the sound.

When a nice wind is darting through the inlets, and the sun is just about to drop beyond the horizon, welcoming dark into the world... it's the most beautiful place I've ever seen. The sun lets her hair flow in strands of gold and purple and blue, bouncing off the clouds that surround her. It's as if they're trying to court her reflection in the gracefully flowing waves below.

It is heaven.
