i recently joined the southwark guild of libraries or whatever you call such an alliance. to celebrate i Borrowed some Books which was all tres exciting for me, it's been about 5 years since i've trusted myself not to go to court over such a venture. Anyway, i got out this fantastic book on insects, ostensibly to read more about bees. But as i read...

I try to go to conferences/conventions whenever I can - mainly the Fortean Unconvention and the Questing Conference - they're nearly always entertaining if not fascinating. The alternative history scene isn't as lively as it was in the late 90s but that's post-Millennium blues for you. Mind you there are a lot of shoddy characters out there too and I think the market's getting more discerning (maybe partly due to the more educated interest drawn by the Da Vinci Code? *shrugs*).
Robert Bauval is quite the charmer, but IMHO he milks it too much, and he's one of the main 'stirrers' on the scene - IMHO reading between the lines it was his fault that Gantenbrink got booted from the original Upuaut project - he is also one of the reasons why the author Ralph Ellis couldn't get mainsteram publishing. Graham Hancock is pretty cool too, and he seems to have eaten his humble pie and done his homework after being hauled over the coals on BBC's Horizon (his Underworld book on underwater artefacts is superb). I've also had the pleasure of seeing David Rohl speak a couple of times - he used to lecture at UCL where I went - nice guy, doesn't take any s*** either. I'm still trying to pick up some of his books - some of them are damn hard to get hold of...

I think I have a favor to ask you. That involves something in Manchester, on November 10th. In exchange I will be your best friend in the world, and give you a million dollars.*
*or something of equal or lesser value, given that I don't actually _have_ a million dollars.**
**By equal value, I mean something really cool, like ice cream, or a puppy.

Apparently the church was meant to be terrible and awesome in appearance. And it kinda is, there's nothing charming about it whatsoever.
To what extent do you think we are the product of our environment?
Perhaps our core beliefs and morality and to a certain degree our way of dressing and presenting ourselves are all the result of growing up in the way in which we did. But what about our sadness and happiness? Is it possible to feel better about oneself far from the madding crowd?...

I think there are some innate traits and qualities that will be expressed by the people who harbor them if said traits and qualities are dominant enough, but I agree that we are mostly products of our society. Sometimes all ya can do is follow the norms and values of the dominant society even while acknowledging that the reasons behind following them really have no grounds whatsoever.
If you can't make such concessions, then perhaps it IS better if you move to a cave to become a hermit in order to escape judgments by others. but then. without a societal measuring stick, would you begin to yearn for others' opinions and judgments? juuuuuuust a thought.
You dig the Gaiman? You grabbing his new book Anansi Boys? I'm not sure when it comes out where you live, but I think it's coming out here in a few days and I am exciiiiiiiiited. And he's doing a reading here two days before my birthday! rock on. anyhoo. taker easy.

Hello again
I work in Whitechapel, live in Archway. Your neck of the woods is a stone throw from Whitechapel.
Your wishlist doesn`t work. When I log on, it gives me my wishlist, not yours.
Have another go or if you trust me give me you address via contact tab and the book is yours
I`ll send you a tiny mail anway to get the ball rolling.
Hey and don`t worry about not knowing about Lord Dunsay, I came to it quite late and there are only so many hours in the day
I`ve been wanting to write fantasy for a long time and have done all sorts of research, plus a few chapters. I`m a bit disillusioned at the moment with my writing style and content, mainly because of Neil Gaiman and China Meville. They humble me with their originality and have got me questioning the value of my work.
I don`t want to churn out just another fantasy novel. We`ll talk about this more sometime.
I read that short story and liked it. You see what Neil does, he takes a genre and then adds sex and horror. Who would have thought to have a character like that little girl in such an old world setting? Or if they had the idea they would dismiss it as too off the wall or whatever. She would have been a blood sucker only, not this little girl that bites cocks. In a few pages he`s brought up necrophilia, incest, pedolfilia as well as plain old sex. What a guy!
So keep well and speak soon.

Anyways, considering how you look in photos et. al, I'm assuming it's a matter of time (read: minutes) before cute boys start knocking on your door. That's my assumption, at any rate...
Few months before you're world-reknown? Hm. It can happen, but it hasn't happened to me yet! But in any case, now I want you to send me art!

Yeah, going to the concert helped (and the fact that it on the brillaint side even moreso), but you know, it's like getting drunk. You eventually come 'round. Feeling a bit better today, though.

Hey, thanks for stopping by. I actually do get a steady trickle of notes like yours, but I agree that Gibson should probably be more widely read in this crowd.
If you check out the SciFi group (I think) you'll find a decent few references to Gibson's work, mostly in the "hottest character" thread, where everyone loves Molly (I prefer Chevette). Of course, Molly made it to the big screen and has some pretty sick body mods, so maybe that has something to do with it
Sorry to read about your financial troubles. I have no comforting or witty things to say about it... but I hope you can find a way out.
