So last night we were just sitting around and all of a sudden we hear and feel this big "thud"! It was like a big bookcase had fallen down upstairs or a tree had fallen on the house! We looked around and checked outside but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
About 5 minutes later we begin to hear the sirens. More and more sirens. And then we realized something nearby had exploded! We hopped in the car (in our pj's at 12:30) and drove through the neighborhood. It wasn't long before we saw the column of smoke and eerie orange glow. Dozens of police and firefighters had already descended upon the location when we found it - a house in our neighborhood that had suddenly and massively exploded! The flames were bursting 20 feet into the air and it was all very scary:
The houses on either side were also catching fire and we watched the firefighters set up and start going after it. We stayed a few minutes just to see the spectacle and then headed back home, feeling terrible knowing that there were undoubtedly people inside that house. They certainly would have died instantly. We found out on the news today that so far only one person was feared dead and they don't know what caused it.
Scary evening and makes one realize how quickly life can be altered out of the blue!
