All the girls in my classes who I have became friends with and whom are the same age as me (one girl is eighteen, one is nineteen, another just turned twenty) all have children. And they're all incredibly friendly, beautiful young women. You can see the struggle in their eyes, but they're alive. They keep little photo albums updated weekly in their purses and on cue they whip them out and go "Yeah..that was Tyler's first snowfall," etc.
What's more, they're in school. They're not fucked up or abusing their children or doped up on drugs. Most of their husbands (er, boyfriends) have left them and they're holding down two jobs and attending school fulltime. They love their children more than life and they cherish the fact that they're grasping onto any knoweldge that they can. That's why I like community colleges...the kids there appreciate their education. Unlike a student attending a regular 4 year college, they're not wasting their parents' money and getting high every weekend. It's not a party. They're working their asses off and working so they can feed those little mouths. I admire them with all my heart. I know I couldn't do it.
It can be refreshing to see those things. I sometimes think my generation is too fucked, with issues over money and terrorism and so on, but little things like that make me happy and give me hope.
Little things.
