Hello all,
Here are the pictures taken on my recent trip to New Zealand.
This was during our 14 hour stopever in Singapore. Explored the chinatown district a bit. Bloody humid and raining, so didn't feel fresh following this excursion, and I'd already changed into my second set of clothes for the next leg of the flight to christchurch.
The main thing I found in New Zealand was space. Theres tonnes of it. The car in front is another member of our team, we didn't see another one for at least an hour.
Fans of Lord of the Rings will recognise Rohan everywhere..
This is typical of the places I'll be doing most of the work for my PhD. The alpine treeline, it rocks!
Typical sunsets/evenings in the Craigieburn mountain range, where most of the study took place. We camped in the meadow just at the base of this picture. It was frosty in the morning, but 28 degrees centigrade during the day.
Silly attempt at clever photography of grass against the landscape.
This is a Kia, the worlds only alpine parrot. This guy wouldn't leave us alone and would come within a foot of us. They're known to eat the fat from around sheeps kidneys [after driving them off cliffs].
This is me sieving soil and drinking beer in the sunshine. The packages are soil and not heroin as my supervisor observed.
Another cold morning gave this lovely sight at 6am at Lake Lake Rotora.
Just to prove I was there all togged up in the cold morning. Went swimming in the lake later. It has 90 year old eels living in it. Didn't see any though.
Goodbye New Zealand, see you next January [for three months!]

silvereve:
I love the pictures and thanks for the warning. I was just about to have another bite of dough when I realized my stomach was just about to revolt. Wow thank you!
