Class began Tuesday, with "Intro to the Actor's Studio." That title is far cooler than the class, by the way. I mean, i read that title, i get images of a troupe of people, willing to put on a production despite various dramatic backstage events, people who have passion & love for their craft. And James Lipton, of course, but i thought that joke was too easy. Anyway, the class is about four & a half HOURS long. This is, as i was told, an "experiment." Eh. I've got no problem with that. It's acting. I enjoy acting. Met some of the greatest people i've known through classes like that.
This class is horribly, horribly dull. Honest to god, the best part of class was talking to Lobster_Mobster during the twenty minute break. Seven people in the class. Seven. And i'm sure one of them (one of the two girls) is going to drop. Now, small classes are cool by me, but i can honestly see myself hating each of these people. They all annoy me. They're all SERIOUS. It's amazing, i just can't understand how people can be humorless in an acting class. I've always understood it as something fun, something to be enjoyed. This is an overall complaint, because the individual ones just aren't worth mentioning. The teacher is also a source of irritation, just because he too is so dreadfully serious (well that & asking the guy from Afghanistan if he was in New York on 9/11. Would've been hilarious if it weren't so inappropriate). He told me, after an improv i did with another guy that was actually pretty decent, he told me flat out "Comedy isn't funny, it's serious business." I was confused. I'm giving it another week, maybe two, to see if i can deal with all these people. I figure i'll drop the class like a pussy, or just kill them all.
Film History will be MUCH better. We actually watched a Scorsese short film to learn about technique. Beats the shit out of French impressionists in a film class. Next week, "Birth of a Nation," the one the other guy wouldn't let us watch because he was afraid of a political nightmare. And now it makes sense to read about DW Griffith. But instead of watching like six movies, we watch one a week. And the class has much better people. It's great. I hope it continues.
And Radio is amazing. I've never actually missed school before the class last semester. The class this year is mostly the same people i had in class last time, which is awesome because i like these people. And i get PODCASTS. I can make a fool of myself again. I love it. I've missed it. If anyone ever wants to be a guest, let me know. I can have guests now, & to be honest it's a LOT easier for more than one person to fill half an hour or more than just one person. And i can pimp stuff. But overall, it should be a good semester. And while i say that every time, i remain optimistic.
Anyone up for anything between tonight & Sunday? Let me know. Now that i have a schedule, i'd like to use it for something.

In reply to your comment on my blog: Yeah I found some really nice stuff, mostly at Kohl's, but I haven't really started with the Walmart one yet. Jeff says we'll probably have to actually do that one at the store to get what we want. Blah, oh well.
Glad you're optimistic, hope the crappy class gets better!!
