This new layout sucks more ass than Mick Jagger at Studio 54. Just wanted to say that, as if it would make a difference. I'm just befuddled that a site where the main goal is boobs is set up oddly. It's almost Freudian, if you think about it.
I've got nothing to say, really. Hung out with Catagogo the other day, which was cool. It's never boring when we hang out, i don't think. Good gal. We basically just kinda wandered around Sac, which is a deceptively interesting city. You never hear much about it, it seems like, but it's fascinating. Like a more cost effective yet void of ocean San Francisco, except totally different. Speaking of which, there's an outside chance the planned move further into the city proper might be delayed a little, based on the semester starting in January. Not committed to not moving, though. It's going to happen, just not sure of exactly when. Basically, my non driving ass is afraid of fucking up the lightrail schedule. Stupid, yeah, but not unfounded, because i'm not good with things like that.
I also need to thank/curse Kage for introducing me to bittorrent. I'm hopelessly addicted, & it's gotten worse in the last week. Started out innocently enough with TV shows & games, then came the music, & like that i'm incredibly close to killing my hard drive. Hell the external hard drive is slightly suffering. By the end of the week, i'll have more music than i've bought in the last year, which scares the hell out of me. But i love this stuff, if only because i never really need to blindly buy something someone swears by only to find out it's not as special as it could be. For instance, i caved & finally listened to TV on the Radio's "Return to Cookie Mountain" album (wish the HTML shit was working for italics, but whatever). Kage said at the Halloween party that it sucked, but a TON of people are going all "album of the year...no, the decade...no, the century" so i figured what the hell, not costing me anything. I found it completely average, but i might give it another shot eventually. It just wasn't memorable, which to me is the biggest crime a record can be guilty of. It just was there, & to be honest i can't remember a damn thing about it other than seemingly all the tracks over thirty seconds sounded the same. Not sure what they were going for, but it didn't go the right way. Feel free to tell me if i missed anything, because i'd really like to form an opinion, not just consider it forgettable.
Also got the album i figured i'd spend money on, but thankfully didn't: the Who's "Endless Wire." My hopes weren't exactly high, but the record was good for what it was: half the greatest band of all time, trying to appeal to their longtime fans. It just was clearly missing something. It just seemed frighteningly low key, & not as well produced as it could have been. Daltrey sounded like a car with a bad muffler, which is sorta sad, especially since i know for a fact that he can STILL bring it during live shows after getting some time to warm up. I just don't see how little was done in the way of production to make him sound better. Pete was Pete, in that he was vocally & musically solid, however his conviction in singing is only as good as the song. I'll need to go through it again, but it just was painfully average for a Who record, & honestly i think the songs would have worked better on a Townshend solo album. Just seemed like, without Moon & Entwistle, they lacked heart & to an extent balls. But it was better than "It's Hard," which is all that matters.
One of the coolest things about bittorrent music is the fact i can download multiple albums at once in one download. I managed to pick up SIX Lou Reeds, for instance. Only got through "Street Hassle" (which only suffers from not having the title track finish the album, i think. And i'm biased because the song my MP3 player died on was "I Wanna Be Black," which doesn't make me less embarrassed to attempt to get it fixed) & "Coney Island Baby" (definitely not bad, but not the best) so far, but i'll be sure to burn the others. And i'm currently waiting on Zappa albums, so it's going to be a good week, musically speaking. Also hoping to get Tom Waits, finally. Hope "Rain Dogs" is as good as people say.
Oh & fuck Verizon. They haven't activated the new phone, but have DEACTIVATED the old one, so i'm without a phone. Can't call customer service because i don't have a land line, & need one in order to sort this mess out. So yeah, anyone want to let the poor phoneless guy use their land line for a little bit? It's bad enough the lack of a phone accidently lead to a friend of mine getting lost in the ghetto, but the new phone has all sorts of cool shit i want to play with when i get it active.
I'm pretty much done. Once i start writing i can't stop. I don't think it's a negative, just can be dull for the reader. And i'm too cool for spoiler tags. Anyway, yeah, it's four something in the morning, & i better go.
