More ramblings. I'll preface this by saying that i haven't slept like a normal human being since the last entry, & if i don't get out soon i'll become quite miserable to people without much provocation. So, who wants to hang out? That reminds me, i will need a ride to the SG Halloween party next week. There's food in it for you. And gratitude, sure, but you can't eat gratitude. There's innuendo in there, unintentional but fun.
I finally got a chance to listen to Lou Reed's "Berlin" all the way through. Interesting stuff. I don't see how it's the darkest album ever, but it certainly IS dark. Musically i really enjoyed it, i think because it's so different than "Transformer." I love that about Reed, he just dives into whatever identity crisis he's in. The production is pretty slick, too, but i think it would've sounded a little better if it were more gritty. Both "Caroline Says" songs are quite good, & are totally different. I love that "Caroline Says II" is basically the dark version of "Stephanie Says," both because the latter holds a special place in my heart for personal reasons i might get into eventually & because the former blows it away. I could easily see that album as a narrative, which it probably is anyway. "Lady Day" might be my favorite song off the album though, just because i love the music. People seem to get all weirded out by "The Kids," mainly due to the fact it has the sounds of kids crying & stuff for what seems like a couple minutes. Didn't find it bad on the stereo, however it's totally different on headphones. The stark contrast alone to the music kinda throws you off. But it's an interesting album, well worth the $10 or so i spent on it. Now if i can just find a copy of "Street Hassle" for less than thirty fucking dollars.
Also was listening to some Mindless Self Indulgence earlier. My brother & his friends love them, & sent me a bunch of songs. They fascinate me. I really enjoy listening to them, but i don't know why. They aren't like technically good, i guess; i mean, the music is limited & the lyrics are scattershot at best. However, they just are a blast to listen to, for some reason. Must be the enthusiasm. When i had my radio show in Ukiah, i played "Bitches" a lot. The idea of MSI on the radio in Ukiah just tickled me. My brother --the coolest bastard i've ever had the privledge of knowing-- got tickets for one of their shows, & i'm tempted to go. Just because. I don't see how that couldn't be a fun show.
I've been going through a minor battle lately trying to decide which Pixies record i like best: "Doolittle" or "Surfer Rosa." It's hard. I'm leaning "Surfer Rosa," because "Where Is My Mind?" rules the fucking world. But then so does "Debaser." I hate this turmoil. It's like picking a favorite kid, for the love of god.
So since i've been up since one thirty, i spent the evening entertaining myself. Watched both the Rob Zombie movies back to back. Lot of blood to get through. I really like those movies, notice new things each time i watch them. Only complaint i have is some of the character shifts between "House of 1000 Corpses" & "Devil's Rejects." It isn't even major; they all just seemed a little too rational in "Devil's Rejects." Both movies are fucking wonderful though. It saddens me there isn't going to be another; it REEKS of trilogy. I love that these films are much more interesting than they have any right to be. Never happens anymore.
The Who's "Endless Wire" comes out in a month, i believe. First album of new stuff in over twenty years. They're my favorite band, bar none, so i'll somehow end up with this album at some point. My hopes aren't exactly high, though. "Wire & Glass", the mini opera thing they put out as a single, is pretty underwhelming. Not bad, but not the blowaway track it needed to be. I just don't want them to embarrass themselves more than they have, i guess. The last album, "It's Hard," was at best a two song record; the rest was shit. Granted it was completely '80s, with synths everywhere & reeking of hairspray (Townshend with a flock of seagulls haircut is fucking awesome, by the way), & Townshend was on heroin & all that, but still. I'm guessing the new album will be good, but not in the same league as the other stuff by any means. I'm thinking "Face Dances" at best, but then i like "Face Dances" alright, so cool.
Everyone should check out Townshend's solo stuff, by the way. I think he was doing his best songwriting in the '80s, personally. Lyrically all the albums are fantastic, if occasionally pretentious. Music is a little dated, i guess, but that's time for you. Specifically get "All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes" & "Empty Glass." Then maybe grab a best of, just to get the other stuff.
Midterms went well enough, though they aren't done quite yet. Next week, for sure. I think i failed the comedy one, sadly enough. At least the essay stuff. It's the fucking theories that got me; i can't keep straight who thought what was funny & why the others were wrong. The radio midterm was fucking awesome, though, since it was oral in the studio. Speaking into the mic, i mean. My mind has its own gutter. Totally blew it away.
I'm done. I just needed to write something. It's easier here. Must be the boobs.

If I go, I will give you a ride there. I'm still 70/30 though. As the date gets closer I'll know. But for crissakes its one day after your birthday. SOMEONE will give you a ride.
