Quick note to everyone: I'm still getting in the habit of writing here on SG, so i apologize greatly for not commenting on blogs as much as i could. SG seems more like a community than other sites, as far as people who use it, so i feel i owe it to you guys to comment on stuff. So yeah, please bear with me.
Also, i'm sure most will agree with me, but it's REALLY hard to narrow down your favorite SGs for your profile. Pain in the ass. Throw in, at least, five more spots, just so i won't be racked with as much guilt.
This week has been quite good, overall. Went on the most successful date i've had in quite some time, which i don't think i've fucked up yet. Pessimistic, sure, but i've got a track record of creating new & exciting ways to fuck up romantic situations. But it went really well. Then i had dinner last night with a friend of mine i haven't kept in touch with for the last few years, which was great. She's definitely a person i need to stay in with. Also got to see more of Sacramento, which was nice. I'm seriously considering moving further downtown when the current lease expires. Just is very nice there, especially when considering that here in South Sac it isn't...well, nice, but not bad. Decent, i guess is the word...eh whatever.
You know what's a good song? Seriously? "Der Kommissar." I remember exactly when i first heard it all the way through: November of '98 on KXBX. But i'm a sucker for German in pop songs. Keeping in that same theme, i think the coolest thing ever would be a choral version of "Rock Me Amadeus." There is no limit to how much ass would be kicked.
Oh wow, Lucha Libre is on. There are few things as awesome as lucha libre, if only for those unintentionally funny nonsequiters for those who don't speak Spanish. Last time i watched, three transvestites fought with some really skanky looking chicks & two midgets, one of whom was dressed as Chucky from "Child's Play." I'm sure there was a storyline in there somewhere, but fuck i know what it was. That's the fun of lucha libre. Might be a good match once in awhile to boot (although, i've noticed that out of the two companies i've seen on TV, CMLL & AAA, that CMLL actually has consistantly good wrestling while AAA has the funniest crap out there). It's goofy shit like this that keeps me, even as mildly as i am anymore, interested in the business. I know not everyone reading this cares about the wrestling business, but hell, i'll write about it anyway. Everyone's got their vices. Speaking of which, ordered the Brian Pillman DVD recently, mainly because Amazon had it for $14.99 & it seemed like a great deal for a two-disc set of anything, much less Pillman.
Also caved & got Lou Reed's "Berlin." I've been putting this off for almost a year, because honestly it hasn't been a priority. The only reason i even bothered with it was because it's called one of the darkest, bleakest albums of all time. And it's fucking Lou Reed...which might mean more if he was consistant, but still. Dude is so comically self-righteous & obnoxious that i could never hate him. Maybe i could if he'd admit to it, but since he never does it's just funny. Townshend at least is willing to share that he's what he is: a dick, but a charismatic & likeable one. I mean, he's taken credit to prophesizing the internet, using his "Lifehouse" project as proof. That just fucking rules.
Speaking of Townshend, there's been some AWESOME youtube vids of him performing acoustically from his pay per view webcast thing. Dude blows away songs i didn't think he could do that well acoustically, & with his voice. Anything from "Tommy" for instance is fucking glorious. And the Who's new album is due out i think in the next few months. I forget what it's called, but i'll end up with it at some point, because i've ended up with almost all the others. The more i listen to the entire "Wire & Glass" thing, the more i like it. I mean, sure, it isn't as good as anything from their peak, but it isn't meant to be; it's a tribute to music, & setting the stage for what is potentially (although unlikely) their final album. And any song that gives a shout out to Dave Van Ronk is just badass, because i've only met one person who knows who Van Ronk is, & he's the guy who told me who Van Ronk is. I look forward to the new album, because there's going to be at least one kickass song on there i'll listen to repeatedly.
By the way, the best song i've heard in a LONG time is the Rolling Stones' version of "Drift Away." Limewire says it's the Stones & Beatles, but come on. I love it. First Stones song i've been into in quite a while. I think it's quite old, but it doesn't matter. "Wonder Years" had made me really, really start jonesing for '60s stuff again, which i think happens every time i see the fucking show. Last time i had "For What It's Worth" in my head for two years. Still think that's a kickass song, too.
I also have decided i need a guitar. Badly. Just an accoustic whatever, at least. Too bad people want money for goods & services. Hell my own mother won't give me her Yamaha accoustic --which she's played maybe twice in ten years-- for less that $300. What the fuck? This does remind me though that i have a bass here my brother gave me, but no amp. And no idea how to play the bass.
Birthday is in twenty-five days. Then i can do everything legally. I hope that doesn't take the magic out of offbeat shennanigans.
I'm done. Hope everything is going well with everyone.
