Time Flies...
I've spent a lot of time with a guy called Croc recently, in past months. He is a Cook Islands Tatau Artist and when he is in the UK and at Higgins and Co in Eastbourne I usually go and stretch for him.
It's hardcore work, I have to hold positions of stress on my muscles for 5-10 minutes at a time and up to 6-7 hours a day and it leaves you wrecked.
But as I have done so much strecthing for Croc, he has named me his favourite and strongest stretcher in the UK (That he has worked with!!) He tells people I am small but with amazing power.
I have literally EARNED being gifted Malu on the backs of my thighs (Malu is a complete thigh tatau, but I have work already on my thighs so we did the backs of my thighs and knees, cripes it is so different from machine work and hand work and causes extensive bruising and the back of the knee is hell)
At work
Back of the knee!
Left leg done in May
I just had the right thigh done and it is purple and yellow at the moment. I need to get someone to take pics of the final thing, it is so beautiful.
There ARE meanings to the symbols in there, mainly chosen for meby Croc as he got to know me and my strengths.
But for now my tatau is done!!!
I've also been tattooing a whole ton, even doing some Japanese which is what I don't usually do, but it is on my best friend so....
being photographed at this angle is NOT sexy, I lean forward which gives me face droop
It's all I have time to write at the moment sadly, but although short, I think it's also interesting stuff.
My personal belief is that everyone who tattto's should go and at least watch tatau, and if possible go strecth for a tatau artist. You learn so much more about skin that way

wolfox:
I've been intrigued by the idea of Pe'a, from the Samoan friends I haven't seen in years now - don't think I'd ever be able to handle the pain, as they described it, but kudos and honour to those who can!
