so my friend called me yesterday and she wanted to know what a "Hollaback Girl" was, from the Gwen Stefani song. So of course, I Googled it, and here's the hysterical article I found. OC weekly analysis

From a reading of the later text, we can conclude that the song takes place in the world of high school athletics, and that Gwen is apparently leading the girls in a calisthenics exercise. The shit, we surmise, is what she calls the exercises shes teaching the other girls.

Here, Gwen exhorts the girls to try harder as they jog around the track, reminding them that physical fitness is not just gonna happen, but must be worked at.

this appears to be a collaborative site where we all just make up definitions for words. Beautiful. The French would be so horrified at our Living Language.
although definition six gives me an excellent visual image, I am really drawn to definition seven. I need the Urban Dictionary for everything. I will replace Google with the Urban Dictionary...

A Hollaback Girl is someone who spreads rumours and talks tough, but doesn't back up their words with action. The cheerleader theme comes in because this kind of behavior is typical in high school.
The hollaback girl is talking about Gwen behind her back. Gwen finds out and replies that she's not just going to "holla back," she's going to kick her ass.
