The Giggling Adventures of Lulu Sunshine
Part 4: The Tattered & Shattered Sword of Hearts
... Through the vast tunnels of golden sand and the endless array of beautifully sketched hieroglyphics, a small shadowed silhouette illuminated at entrance of Sandy Sandstorms cave. The shadows form was that of its surroundings, almost chameleon-like, although its true for was nothing more than a scared young male being, afraid of anything acknowledging his presence.
Sandy and Lulu left their hot cup of Mushroom Tea steaming on a dirty wooden table as they ventured closer to the entrance to Sandys cave. The two moved slowly, investigating who or what was lingering there. Ready for anything, Sandy quickly wrapped her hands around the handle of an old and tattered sword, which had been left by, once brave and distinguished warriors, now only that of forgotten souls. Sandys hand fit perfectly around the rusted sword base, her head raised high as she tread slowly towards the noise, prepared to protect her place of rest by any means necessary.
Lulu, keep close to me and do not stray away. Sandy whispered, as she aimed the tip of the sword at the glimpse of unexplainable darkness.
Show yourself now, I say! Come out of the shadows coward; meet the one at the end of this strong and sturdy sword! Just as Sandy spoke her last word, the once strong and sturdy sword she had spoke of fell to the ground shattering into small pieces. Lulu couldnt help but giggle; even as she covered her own mouth, the laughter could still be heard. The shadow seemed to find this funny as well, letting out a small chuckle followed directly by staggering letters that slowly formed sentences and thoughts.
I I Didnt mean to scare. Oh no, I think I will go, I am sorry, I will I think, well ok yes, I will leave now. The Shadow softly muttered.
Lulu and Sandy looked at each other wondering what had just happened. Wait! Dont leave, you didnt scare us, dont go away! shouted Lulu. Sandys eyes lit up with confusion, I do hope you know what your doing Lulu whispered off the lips of a now nervous Sandy.
I think, well I know I mean, I dont know ... if thats a good idea. Do you know if it is? I dont know what I am saying, Im sorry I stupid! Shadow replied as he smacked his dark hands against his shaking forehead, over and over again.
Lulus eyes lit up with sympathy for the Shadow; she also knew what it felt like to be unwanted, and she wouldnt have another feel the same way.
Its ok new friend, please come in join us for some tea in the form of three, yourself, Miss Sandy Storm and well, of course Lil ole me. It will be fun, I promise we wont bite, just stay for a while and spend some time with us tonight.
The nervous wreck of a Shadow drifted closer to Sandy and Lulu, slowly unveiling a tear stricken face and a set of quivering lips that spoke in the language of gratitude.
I do thank you two I am truly sorry for interrupting your night with a sudden fright. I ... am well, hold on one second. Thats oddly funny; I seem to have forgotten my name, wait a moment, yes, Ahhh yes, thats it! My name is Benjamin. Benjamin is my name!
Lulus eyes sat still in a trance, listening to every stumbled word Benjamin spoke. The once intense glare of her hidden love for Reign had almost certainly disappeared, only to be replaced with an obviously embarrassed smile that spread widely across her face. Sandy instantly noticed her reaction to Benjamin and replied with a stinging slap across the back of Lulus head, breaking her from daydreaming. Wake up, Lil Miss light bright, we got us some company! Sandy shouted loudly.
Sandy and Lulu led the way back inside the depths of Sandstorm Cave, allowing some chatting distance between themselves and Benjamin.
What were you thinking Lu? You dont even know what he is capable of doing or even who he is, and you let him into my home! Im telling you if he wigs out, then youre both out! I swear you have gone nuts! Ohhhh and what was with the sappy puppy face? Am I missing something? One minute your inlove with Reign, the next minute I swear youre insane, please I beg of you, tell me this is not some childish game? Sandy ranted.
Lulu looked up at Sandy, then back to Benjamin making sure he wasnt eavesdropping, and then replied. His eyes spoke to me in poems of love and for once I felt at ease even if it was well a daydream.
Shadows pace grew faster making it impossible for Sandy to reply to Lulu without being overheard. Out of nowhere and for no apparent reason Benjamin began to talk of his past and how his travels led him to the opening to Sandys cave in tears.
I was alone you know . For a long time, just thinking and such, of nothing important, I guess I was thinking that I think too much. I know I dont make sense; Im a bit of an idiot, yuppers, when you think Idiotic, Think Benjamin, Benji the idiot!
Now inside Sandys cozy kitchen, standing still in front of a warm Mushroom teapot, Lulus curious eyes arose yet once again as she softly asked, Why are you so hard on yourself? It cannot be all that bad. Can it?
Benjamin looked at Lulu with an honest smile only to respond with a very serious question of his own, May I trouble you for a cup of that Mushroom aroma I smell so well? In return I will gladly answer your question, but please I ask of you kindly to grant my lips with a taste of your tea first. I have traveled oh so long and I do not believe I can go on without at least a sip.
Sandy Sandstorm being the caring type she was, grabbed another cup from her countertop, filled it to the brim with tea and handed it to Ben with a smile.
I thank you kindly miss, as does my tummy. The shadow gratefully replied with a nodding head. Mmmm, that is the best tasting tea I have had the pleasure of tasting in my lifetime. So you ask if it can be as bad as I make it out to be, well let me tell you that it surely can. It all starts with a love, a love as pure as snowflake children dancing under the stars, only to leave you with a broken heart, feeling alone in front of a strangers cave crying the tears of emotional agony. Before I go on, let me ask you both an important question. Why is it we are taught the lessons of love and all of its greatness, but never the lessons of a broken heart and its painful maintenance?
Silence once again filled Sandys cave, confirming that neither Sandy nor Lulu had an answer for the Shadow.
It is only when you figure out the answer, which I shall carry on, and until that moment I shall hold this story strong. Search deep within yourself for that lingering spell, and then will these tales be yours as well. I thank you once again for the tea and this talk, but the absolute truth now is I must be off. I do promise we will meet again, even if its in the end, I bid you a good night and a sleep that is tight my new found friends.
In the blink of an eye, Benjamin was gone, leaving nothing but a question without an answer and a sense of confusion in the air.
