Orange may be a hot summer color around the world, but in Israel it now sends such a strong political message that some Israeli fashion labels are pulling orange merchandise off the shelves.
While shopping on Rv Dizengof yesterday a friend of mine bought clothes. Walking down the road he thought people were giving him dirty looks... When he came to a traffic light he got a lot of friendly smiles from the anti-disengagement protesters standing there handing out ribbons to passers by [they were in town to attend last night's rally in Kikar Rabin] when he suddenly realised what was going on. He had a bright orange shopping bag.
He went back to the store and asked for a replacement. The attendant laughed and found another bag. While he was repacking his bag he noticed her putting all the orange bags in the back of the store.
It was/is funny but it does underline how strange life can be here on the eve of the disengagement.
