About 10 minutes ago i saw a preview for a new will smith movie... and now i'm pissed...
why the outrage? The movie is
I Am Legend
Based on the novel by Richard Matheson and the movie The Last Man on Earth (also based on the book) which starred the Master of Macabre himself.. Vincent Price.
The preview does what all hollywood films do these days... make it look good. But will it be able to convey anything aside from will smith trying to save the world as the last man on earth? doubtful.
I know it's overly pessimistic, but WHY DO THEY HAVE TO REDO VINCENT PRICE FILMS????????
It's a fucking sin. Yes i realized that it brings light to these amazing stories, classic films and novels... but come on, we live in an age where most people refuse to watch a movie if it's made before the 80s... where black and white can't be considered watchable... it's not like any of these movie goers, especially stupid little teenagers who have no interest in the history of it, are going to buy the book, or watch the original film. why would they, they have something shiny and new with lots of gore and special effects to see. Why see something in black and white starring a horror movie legend that was groundbreakingly scary when it was first released... why read a novel that is still terrifying, and emits the sense of loneliness like no other peice of paper?
why take all that time?
anyway, it comes out this december, right before christmas. I will have to see it, and who knows maybe it will be ok. I just hate that these classic stories are being remade. I mean come on Richard Matheson wrote the second most amount of the original Twilight Zone episodes second only to Rod Serling... and more fantastic thrillers and horrors and fantasys... seriously... go to chapters.ca and look him up. See all the stories this amazing mind came up with.
And then think of how they murder meaning in films these days. Think of what they will do to that story.
And it's Vincent Price!!!! The man is a god and they think they can do better?????
Didn't they realize that they couldn't after the travesty that was the remake of House of Wax?????
ARRRRRHHHGGGGGG!!!!!

Wouldn't it be grand if script writers used their own brains for a change? I'm waiting for the remakes of Breakfast at Tiffany's, A Clockwork Orange, and It's A Wonderful Life... then my rampage starts.
In the meantime, try not to let it get you down...
