......peacefully sitting in my office, enjoying a calm morning without the mental burden of work, reading a short story by an award-winning woman author about a quiet little town in eastern Canada........then BLAST, BLASTING, MORE BLASTING.....a loud motorcycle explodes away from the stop light, screaming into and through the neighborhood.....like an unexpected string of thunderclaps.....shattering the peace......what is it about people like that? what kind of mental tricks do they play on themselves such that their need to disgorge noise trumps everyone else's peace within blocks of their passage? pushing--forcing--an auditory wake that plows roughshod through a community.....for their entire journey......how many hundreds, thousands of people do they wake up, disrupt, make cringe and wince? creating, churning ugly feelings and thoughts all around them, as if it was their right....as if we deserved it.......
