Just stopping in to say hey..
On vacation this week so I thought I'd get in a little SG time...
I saw the speech that Pres. Obama gave in Cairo last week... How absolutely incredible is he... I'm so damn proud to have a president that I can finally be proud of.. It was simply amazing to have him stand up in front of the world and for once, have our president be honest and do what he could to actually be a member of the world community, not another bully who thinks that America is No. 1 and is entitled to bully everyone else.
I'm not saying that we don't have many things to be proud of, but come on, there's a whole hell of a lot in this country that we still have a long way to go on to get it right... Look at any of the international survey's re: where we stand compared to other Democracies... Health Care, Literacy, Poverty, Hunger, Infant Mortality, Civil Rights, Racial/Gender/Sexual Preference equality, and a whole lot of others that we're no where near the top.
And when you talk about where we stand with the environment and getting serious about transforming ourselves to abolish Fossil Fuels and get serious about fixing our Environmental abuse, we have hardly begun, especially after 8 years of Bush's complete insanity and denial while he gave away our treasures to his rich oil buddies.. We have the largest percentage of prison population, still have the death penalty, use all sorts of code words to get away with covert racism and discrimination, commit horrible acts of prejudice based simply on an ancient puritanical history of allowing religion to justify discrimination, and allow the horrible abuse and mistreatment of animals including completely needless hunting, and still let radical crazies say that they need the freedom to have dozens or hundreds of guns...
OK, that was a rant, but the point is that we have a long way to go and it was simply beautiful to see our President stand in front of the world community, admit that we have done many things in the past that were underhanded, and extend the olive branch to the world to start anew...
What was absolutely stunning was to see the typical insane radical right crazies go ape shit about the speech saying that Obama went too far and weekend America... It showed just how out of touch and marginalized they really are... I hope that the majority of Americans really are starting to see the Rabid Right for who they really are... Rich Old White guy's who had power and money and will do and say almost anything to cling to the power they thought they had with their withered claws.. They truly do not believe that we are all equal, they think they are superior and in so thinking and acting on that belief, they are really showing us all the truth of who they really are, and how ridiculous they are... They are mean, scared, power hungry, bigoted, hypocritical, nasty, ugly people and I have no time for they any more... They are not even worth arguing with, at a certain point you have to give up and call them what they are.. Hysterical bigoted nasty people who just want power and money and want to use that power and money to control and suppress people who they view as less than themselves... What a wretched perspective..
I love the fact that it seems like we have finally begun to get that across the country...
What's great about us here in SG is that the vast majority of us were way ahead of the country and got this all a long long time ago... Good writtens Republicans....
