Rant for the week: people giving out fliers at University! There's hundreds of them every week, and as the term goes on I go to more and more extreme measures to avoid them. (Jumping over fences etc...)
In the first week of term I can suffer them:
Q- "Like to enter a prize draw to win <something rubbish>?"
A- "No, Thanks"
By week 5 it's more like:
Q- "Tickets to see DJ Pineapple chunks tonight?"
A- "Piss off."
At the end of the term I'm ground down by essays and more than slightly demented:
Q- "Free drinks at Creation tonight? (local den of vice, aka "nightclub")
A- <hands in pockets> "No, I can't take it! I've got no hands!" <giggles>
*Old man rant over*
This weekend I had my hair cut! Yes, that's the same hair that hasn't been troubled by a pair of scissors for 21 months! I finally admitted that I looked less like Jesus and more like a tramp, and had three inches trimmed off it! I feel liberated!
Anyway, here's some story....
Mia lay still in the darkness, plotting the downfall of her captors. She had been abandoned where she lay following her outburst, and with no source of light she felt disorientated and profoundly alone. Her feet had lost all feeling due to the restraints cutting into her skin, and what little movement that was afforded to her brought no relief. Time ticked by slowly until her brain finally exhausted itself, and sleep began to overcome her
As if on cue, just as her eyelids completed their steady droop downwards, the door to her black chamber was flung open and a bright light was cast onto Mias prone form. In a trice she was fully alert, her attention drawn to the light, unflinchingly. Framed in the doorway was not the broad figure of her adversary Henryk, nor the hunched silhouette of her second captor Eldrin. This intruder was long limbed, and thin as a spectre, his movements graceful as he glided almost imperceptibly towards where she lay. As he drew closer to Mia she recognised his twinkling eyes and sharp features: Gadrion, the man whom she had met and subsequently followed prior to finding herself here.
My dear, he began, the already familiar crooked smile returning to his features, Your cavalry has arrived. Mia looked up at the man weakly: his presence both confused and somehow reassured her. It did not appear that he was in league with her captors, and she still knew nothing of his motives, yet whatever he intended for her must be an improvement on her current position.
Are you not pleased to see me? He laughed, enjoying her helplessness once again. Come then, my sultry one, let me assist you to escape your cell. Producing a vicious looking curved blade, Gadrion slashed through her restraints with nothing more than a deft flick. Blood rushed back through her limbs, and ripping the tubes from her nose, Mia sat up and began massaging life back into her frigid feet.
No time for a foot massage, Gadrion smiled at her indulgently. We must remove you from the vicinity before the bear returns to his lair.
Howdid youfind Mia rasped barely audibly, before being cut off abruptly: Perhaps you did not hear me darling, I said we must be awaywith all haste. Before she could utter any protestations Gadrion pulled her from the table, and her knees buckled beneath her.
Wonderful, youve lost the power to stay on your feet as well, he muttered as he stooped to help her up. She had just regained balance on her feet when Gadrion stiffened, his eyes narrowing;
The bear returns he muttered darkly.
Sure enough, the bulky figure of Henryk appeared in the doorway, blocking out the light in the room once again.
Who in the nine hells are you?! Henryk exclaimed, advancing towards the smaller man.
I come to take what is mine, brigand! Gadrion spat the words with contempt, and you would do well to stay your hand from interfering.
Youll take her nowhere! Henryk cried and rushed into the gloom towards Mia and her supposed saviour. Coolly, Gadrion released his hold on Mias arm, and brought both hands up in front of his face, murmuring under his breath as he did so. He lowered his hands, and with them, Henryk crashed to the floor, his head inches from the toes of Gadrions boots. Mia looked on in amazement as a mesh of what appeared to be tree roots tangled themselves around Henryks arms and legs, pinning him to the floor. The big man did not stir as he was slowly bound to the floor, evidently knocked unconscious by the fall.
That should hold him! Gadrion chuckled, as he turned to the startled Mia. But now we must go my dear, for you are clearly somewhatundernourished. He proffered his arm to her and she hesitated, studying his inscrutable face to try and decipher his motives. Nothing was forthcoming, yet she could not deny that she felt safe with Gadrion: he obviously did not intend to harm her, and he wielded a power that she could not recall ever seeing: true magic. She stumbled unsteadily towards him and allowed him to guide her gently past the prone form of Henryk and out of the building. Mia was not surprised to find that the city slumbered in darkness again: she could not say how many days she had been kept in that building, but it felt to her exhausted body like it had been weeks. It was still, yet bitingly cold, and Mia drew up close to Gadrion, leaning on him heavily as he led her away from the slowly swinging door of Henryks garret.
